well i might have to replace my front axle. its making alot of wierd noises whenver i move the car and making a lound noise sometimes when i turn the wheel to the right and apply the break. i'm thinking my suspention might have f'ed it up.

well anyway it might just be a ball joint and the 2 bearing i might have to replace. but i wanna know around how much it would cost to replace the whole axle. also could the suspension have played a part in messing up the axle??

thanx

The axles usually less than 100 at most places after you turn in your old one. Check the cv boots on the axles and see if they are cracked or split, and see if there is any grease around in or on the inside of your wheel. If the boot is shot, you might as well get new axles. As for noises when you move the car, that might just be worn bushings. You can usually tell if your cv joints are done with if you hear clicking noises while turning.

If there is a clicking noise while you accelerate around turns, then its an axle. Around $100 like said. Having car too low can put a strain on the axle, but axles do go with or without a drop.

how long can you ride on the axle before something REALLY bad happens?

Depends on the condition of your cv joints. It is possible that the axle could just break while your driving and the whole front end of the car would just drop, but the more likely thing to happen is that it breaks at the hub and it swings around and hits everything. It could really mess up your suspension, but im guessing it would take a while for it to completely fall apart like that.

You car wont drop to do the ground because of broken axle, its not what holds it in place.

An axle broken at the hub flinging around under your car while going 60 mph could do some serious damage to your control arms and anything else under there.

Yeah but a broken axle in itself wont cause ur car to drop, it could however damage other vital parts yeah.
