So after looking it up, i'm looking for new shocks for the dropzone springs. Because GR2's are stock replacmennt and the drop is 1.5", they aren't what I want. I don't need the luxury of Koni Yellow's either, I wanted a basic spring like a Tokico blue, etc. Is there no choice between the $200 gr2 and $600 Koni Yellow?
Thanks! Dr. |

don't expect your gr2's to last long on that drop. . .
So 2 choices is all 6th gens have ? Dr. |

I think that there are a couple of companies that make complete coilover packages that include their own shocks (tuned to the respective spring rate). Tein and JIC come to mind. Erm, not that that is much help for you.
I will say that I worked directly with Koni North America on my shocks, and aside from the 2-3 month wait for custom work, the quality is top-notch and the customer service is excellent. There are other shock manufacturers out there that might fab you up a set (Bilstien, Penske), but the $$ is going to be way north of Konis. My suggestion would be to go Konis and have the shock body shortened to fit your needs and have the vavling done to fit the spring rate of the springs you'll be using... But that is some change, too. Nothing I know of fits what you are looking for. |

The GR-2s make a world of difference on a decade-old car. But if you're dropping that much... the KYBs won't be happy. Call dropzone and ask them what they think.
I'm pretty sure those two struts are the only ones made for our car. You could ghetto-rig something, but I'd say either spend a lot of money on the cosmetic drop or spend less on performance springs. -------------------- |

gr2's are meant for stock replacement, anything under 1" is ok, but thats it. . .that is their range. Anything more they won't work effectively and will die quickly.
So yay or nay on 5th gen shocks ? Dr. |

I'll be getting the full Tein SS Coilover Kit when it comes time to change my shocks, which I'm sure isnt too far away. The Teins look like a really solid setup....Tanabe also makes a coilover for our cars, but in my mind when it comes to suspension, Tein > Tanabe.

We should find out if the fifth gen. Celica's struts and shocks will work for us. I know that springs are interchangable from '86 to '99('86-'89 requiring the top mounts in the front from a '90-'99.)
