I went through a mountain pass on monday and it was probably around 20-25 degrees out. Elevation is somewhere around 4500'. I stopped and was taking some pictures. I left the car on and the wipers were on the delayed (slowest) setting. After awhile the wipers automatically went to the second-highest setting and would not change. They would not turn off or slow down. I could make them go faster on the next setting but nothing else. I tried turning the car off and restarting it after awhile and still nothing. So I head back home and after I get out of the snow and down in elevation they start working fine again for 10 miles or so then they went haywire for awhile again, then back to normal. Now i'm pretty sure this has never happened to my Celica before but i can recall the same thing happening in my Toyota 4x4. We would go up to the mountains and after wheeling in the snow the wipers would do funny stuff. So my questions.... Anybody have this happen to them or heard of such a thing? Any ideas on cause? I would think the cold would be the most likely cuplprit but 20 isn't anything extreme.

UPDATE - wipers no longer work at all. Going to check out the fuses and other most likely causes today. Weird

check the wiper motor it's prob that if the fueses are fine. it could be also a fualty switch. same thing happened in my beater truck. i was fooling around cuz i was bored one day driving and i was trying to see if i could get the wipers to stick in the middle of the windshield by playing with the switch and well i did it then one time i did it they didn't go down they were stuck there. they stayed stuck there for like 20 mins then all of a sudden they went down it was pretty funny.
