thinking about a body kit...., dunno tho... should I? Options

Hey everybody...

Ive been thikning about this ever since my sister fully tricked out her civic. Should I get a body kit? When I first bought my car, the first thing that came to mind and my friend's minds were: BODY KIT! lol

My mind was set on it for the longest time, until I really started to learn about them. My sistrer's civic, has a body kit... And every now and then, she would have problems with it. And I would always watch my dad fix it back up... He'd always mention that theyre a bitch to keep and handle, because they never fit right, and theyre justa hassel, and blah blah blah

Then, I started to like the stock body I have now.... But in the back of my head, Im hearing BODY KIT! because i still really want one, but I duno.... This is tough! K...

To all those who have a body kit... Can ya tell me if theyve ever gave you problems or whatever... Maybe Im gettin the wrong idea bout them cuz its on a civic... lol!

I was talking to someone last night who hates looking at his front lip because it's so low that it gets tons and tons of rock chips. And my friends in town with kits all have cracks and scrapes in their kits.

And often, when I see a car in person, I think it'd look better with a stock body, because most kits don't fit like OEM. And little imperfections like a poorly-fitting kit can ruin the look of a car.

So I say if you're going to get a kit, do it right and take the time to either install it perfectly yourself or pay a bodyshop to install it perfectly. It'll probably take a lot of time or money, but later on you won't hate your car when you look at it and see that the kit doesn't fit right.

Also, don't forget adhesion promoter when prepping the kit for paint, and lots of flex additive in the paint itself when painting the kit.

Edit: I just looked at your profile and saw that your car doesn't have wheels or anything to lower it yet. I'd suggest lowering it and then getting your 16" rims(though you may want to consider 17"...I think it completes the look a bit better), and then see what you think.

Yeah, Ive heard all bout them probelms dealing with the body kits, like chips, not fitten right, all that great stuff.... Im still not sure if im gona go for the kit... chances are... eh probably not.

But yeah... Oh! Yeah before I forget.... My wheels... heh heh dont quite know which Im gona get. Im either goin for 16 or 17's. Mostly towards 16's for some reason.... now that I think of it, I dont know why. LOL but yeah... either 16s or 17s.... not gona be for awhile tho. And about lowering it, sorry not gonna happen.... Ive found out personally what its like to be in a lowered car, and I didnt like it LOL. Yeah, my sisters civic is also lowered... and it feels like the cars gonna fall apart when she goes over a bump.... LOL its so crazy! I dont know what happend to her car, but I dont want that to happen to my Celica... Ya never know what could happen to the suspension in it....

BUT! I do love your idea! That would make my car look HOT!!!!!!! LOL

Anyway, about kits...only get it if you're putting money into it. I mean, don't go cheap.

Welcome aboard Sabrina! Hook up your car, if you want my opinion. Look at the section called members rides, then convertibles and look for Tressa95. Thats one of the hottest convertibles on this site. Once you see that car, you won't want to stay stock!

Welcome Sabrina! It all depends on how 'extreme' you want your car to look. Our cars are very curvy and eye catching already. But if you want more, there are levels as well. I personally am going for a bit mroe subtle detail by getting front splitters, rear hiro exentions, and getting rid of the vert skirts for stock ones.

Take madmods advice and take a look at some of the other verts on this site to see if thats what you really want. Because if you really want it, like coomer said, there are a lot of headaches to go through for it.

some nice verts with kits i reccommend are: Mamunoz23, Tressa95, and Drunken_Style (minus his giant wing)

first of all, Bodykits really arent that hard to maintain . just drive carefully and safely if youve gotta lowered car. if youre on stock suspension like me, you can drive pretty much however you wunna drive . ive got about 6 - 6 1/2 inch clearance from the ground, and ive got no scraping chipping or cracking going on at all. and if you do go bodykit, the guys are right.. and you should do it right. buy from a well known company with good reputation for fitment and quality. i got mine from ViS and fitment was awesome - i even installed it myself with no probs. painting it is the tricky part tho, make sure u take it to a place that CAN paint bodykits/fiberglass. cuz if it aint done right, it'll chip. mine cost a crack load of money just to paint it, but was all worth it since they did a good freakin job

I ditched my kit because I'm just not into the flashy, big kits anymore, but I still think they look good. Its up to you, sometimes its a real hassle having the kit and its very fragile, learn to use fiberglass if you decide to get one.

Yeah, I've seen Tressa95's Celica.... DAMN! ITS SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEET! Ya wana hear somethin thats cool!?

If I decide gettin a kit... thats the one! The one she has! Ive had it picked out for a couple months now. What i really like bout that kit is that it doesnt look to extreme.... Compared to some of the Kits our Celicas have, it seems to me pretty mellow and laid back, not too much, but its still something.... which is what look Im goin for if I get a body kit but yeah! thats the kit I have picked out! And when I sw it on Tressa95's Celica, I was like:

"WOW! Thats what My car would look like, if I got that kit!" (cuz if yall havent seen my car, it looks a lot like Tressa95's car all exception of the body kit)

When seeing that car and how good it looked, that made me want my body kit more But sadly, I am still thinkin about it... Dontcha hate it when ya cant make up your mind? LOL it sux! Thats why Im askin for your help on this one

I also know how expensve they can be too.... Having a family member find out first hand how expensive it is, is a good example. Yall know about my sister's civic right? Ive talked about it in here.... But yeah, Id havta save awhile... If do get the kit, it wont be any time soon... Im gettin other mods on my Celica first. Like: Clear side markers, clear turn signals, Curren Tail lights! (cant wait to get those ), and then custom white emblems to replace te stock (thats a maybe tho) and a buncha other stuff in the interior like an amp for my 10" sub, (I know its small but I gotta stay small cuz Ij afraid someone will stab through the soft top to get to my sub ) , and a new cd player. And then I need to get white paint, for my spoiler I have now, and then get it bolted on. Somewhere around there, a body kit might fit into there... But yeah as you can see... Im gona be busy on my Celica

Yeah, my sisters civic, its lowered and thats how it got all chipped, the body it anyways, plus shes an insane driver, but thatsanother story LOL.... Im goin with BBoYRuGGeD on this one... Im stayin with stock suspension, if I get the kit, cuz like imentioned earlier... My sisters car is lowered and its no fun to ride in

I don't know how you guys don't chip. I had my car painted and the next day I allready got a chip . Its all up to the owner to pick what style they like best. Don't listen to other people its your car you have to drive it not them.

I agree with ya on that one... im not gona go get a kit just cuz people tell me to... This is something Ive been thinking about for awhile now, and I juts want ta hear what people say about them, like what problems kits can have, what are the hasels ect.

Im just gettin other poeple opinions and then I'll think about it. But yeah I agree with ya man
