I have a couple questions bout engines since i dont have much experience with performance. First of all, what's the difference between a "Front" clip and a "Rear" clip and if i planned to do an engine swap (probably 3s-ge) should i get a clip or just the engine for my 7a-fe??? And if i were to get the 3s-ge, how much do you think it would cost me TOTAL (avg. price) if i brought it to a good mechanic? This is probably a stupid question for those who are already experienced but i gotta learn somewhere... Thanks

Front clip is the front half of your car (from behind the bonnet) with everything included such as ecu, wiring harness, and all engine extras.
Rear clip is the same but for the rear half of the car, You'll need it if you want to do the AWD conversion. I can't really estimate price cos I'm probably on the other side of the planet from you I'll let someone else do that. (btw get the gte!!!) |

I think the mounts are the same, they definately are for the 3s-gte. Front clip has everything in the GT4, so unless something is broke, yes you will get everything. Read some more on the various forum threads about this as I'm not the most experienced person wif this.
The GT trans is ok from what I've heard, also you can use an mr2 1 with a bit of customising. |

You will need custom motor mounts. It's no big deal with a good shop though. You will have one small problem though.
As I understand it, the 3s engine comes with a AWD transmition. This cannot be used. Nor can your 7a transmition. You will need a transmition from a 'S' series FF car. (you could use the AWD, but you would ahve to make your car AWD which would cost a fortune.) |
