Today I was on the freeway doing 80mph in a 65 along with another car which was in front of me. A cop comes up behind me, goes into the lane on the right of me and speeds up next to me and beckons me with her finger, like she wanted me to follow her. She then passes me and gets behind the other car that was also doing 80 and pulls them over. I realized she beckoned me because she wanted to pull BOTH of us over at the same time... but I still didn't stop I just got off at the next exit and never saw them again.
Did I have to pull over? What would you have done? Is there any way I can get in trouble for this? |

Rule of thumb: always do what the officer says!

She probably would've given me a ticket anyways, because she wouldn't just let BOTH of us go. So if I do get a ticket, at least I didn't have to waste the time of being pulled over...
That's ****ing stupid that they give tickets in the mail. Edit: Again, "couldn't I just say I didn't see her beckon me?" Plus she never even flashed her lights at me at all. She didn't turn them on until she was behind the other car. This post has been edited by YellowTwo: Nov 18, 2004 - 1:39 PM |

lol, your screwed.
My brother-in-law is a cop and told me about this. If a cop pulls besides you and points, you MUST pull over. If you see him and keep going you're on an account of running from the cops. She has your plate number and now is probably pissed. And you can say you didn't see it. But trust me - if you say you weren't speeding and the cop tells the DA you were.... which one does the DA pick. So if the cop says you know that he pointed you and you ran - your screwed. Just hopefully the cop is lazy and wont file the report. -Ti This post has been edited by turboinduction: Nov 18, 2004 - 2:26 PM |

Well I didn't run. If I say I didn't see her, there's nothing that disproves that because the exit I got off on is actually where I live and where I was headed at the time. And where in the law does it say that if they beckon you that you have to pull over or follow them? The only thing I've heard of that you have to pull over for is a siren, flashing lights, or if you get into an accident.

It is the law that u have to do that whether you have read/seen it or not. You cant say oh I didnt kno it was illegal to steal this bread, and then get away with it.

you also don't have to pull over if you don't feel safe. being pulled over on the interstate would not be considered safe by me and I would have gotten off at the exit as well... so if anything comes of this that's what I would say.

I think that applies only to unmarked cars, uncertain though.

.yeah that is a rule - but it was daylight wasnt it??? a little bit safer - but u could call 911 and say i have a police man following me i dont feel safe so would u get the car and let him know that im pulling over to a safer area or find out if its really a cop! i mean they can understand that -------------------- Cruisin down the street in my Infiniti...always lookin for my next trip to Sin City
