actually what i meant by a thicker head gasket was that it lowers the CR. thus making it a little more stable when making boost. i know that a thicker head gasket wont make more boost. -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

Snadman/sandman
The 3S-GTE 3rd gen has 255hp that is where the number came from. Silver, swapping the 3S head has its advantages. the 5S-FE, as stated is a economical engine. it has a 22 degree angle on the manifold making it so. the 3S-GE has a larger angle, more adapt for racing. It allowed greater flow and all. The arguement over swapping the head is the cost. Apparently to do the head swap is supposed to cost as much as just swapping the engine. i know this sounds really off. but there's more to it that i don't remember ? Also, the head doesn't just snap on, so to say. there has to be some minor changes due to the extra .2L in the 5S -------------------- |

This is a very stupid post. A modded 5s-fe(I'm talking 3" exhaust with custom 3" downpiping, big front mount intercooler, running more boost than the 6 psi that comes with the burien kit) till won't beat the 3sgte in the quarter mile. It may put you in the low 14's. The 3sgte swap into a 6th gen will run in the high 13's. I'll get back with you this saturday when Iget back from the track. the 5sfe was not meant to be highly boosted.

End of the summer we'll see what the 5s can do. I am in the process of putting together the DIY 5sfe turbo kit using 3sgte parts. I am also going to be strengthining the bottom end (if not rebuilding completely) and running a MSD ignition with timing control. If I up to it I might throw in a 35 shot also but I'm not to keen about using the gas (had a friend that blew his hood clear off). My biggest worrie is if the tranny will hold up or not.

Your drive shafts will go first. Think of them as little expensive fuses to keep you from messing up your transmition.
