anyone have some? im looking to do this but i need some ideas on the type of switch, location, etc. also, the wires i cut have to go from the hu to the switch and from the switch to the antenna, right? i dont really understand how to install the switch.

I don't know how to set up the switch because I don't have a power antenna. But I like where my switches are. I just got them from a hardware store and they work really good.

all the switches at my small hardware store are 120v. does that mean its rated for 120v or it can only be 120v? also, can someone with the power antenna clear up the wiring issues? after thinking about it, do i just leave the headunit wires hanging (but taped up) and connect the power antenna's positive and negative wires to the switch? C3L1CA, what did you use to make the square holes for your switches or are they actually circle holes?

the switches will work just fine and you can wire it either way but it'll be much easier to use the wire from the head unit.

Edit: if the switch has a light and is rated for 120V then the light isn't going to work.

i would wire it through the head unit, because then all you have to do is splice a switch into the line, and when the power is connected, and switch is on, the HU will do it for you, and if you dont want the antenna up, just flip the switch, and the HU wont put it up when it wants it up... just alot easier if you ask me.

if i just splice it, then the hu will always control it because there will always be the connection.

no if you splice the power between the HU and the antenna then the HU is on and the switch is off haha no power to antenna which means down wink.gif and then when you flip the switch on with the HU on then WALA its goes up wink.gif

i was mistaken on what he meant. i thought he meant splice as in intall the switch between the antenna and hu on the wire while the wire is still intact. whenever i use the word "splice" i usually mean to add another wire to the existing wire while leaving a connection in the original wire. sorry for the misunderstanding.

from the diagram, how should i wire it up?

so im guessing i cut the blue wire at the back of the hu and put the switch in there? why did he say to cut the red and black wires in the how-to? is his way to have the antenna up or down with total control while your way is either antenna down or hu taking control?

just to put it clearly, when you turn the HU on the antenna goes up. Off and it goes down. Now if you put a switch / interupter on the blue wire, if the HU is on and antenna is up, hit the switch and antenna down. The switch cuts power to the antenna, telling the antenna motor the HU is off and retracts the antenna.

When I listen to CDs I hit the switch and the antenna goes down. I have a little switch under the dash. Nothing special about it. I did this when I put in a power antenna on my ST biggrin.gif

i put the switch in today. i use one of those rectangular switches and put it on the right side under the steering wheel. theres a little plastic cutout on both sides for switches. it looks like part of the car.
