Well I hooked up my ST202 fog lights last night finally. I had the wires from my old PIAA fogs still routed down there, so I cut the connectors off the fog lights and the PIAA lines and put on some connectors. I plugged them all in and turned the lights on and they were working fine. I drove all last night and they were still all working fine. I came to work and parked and I could see that they were on because of the reflection off the bumper in front of me, but when I came back out shortly after they were not working. I checked the connections and they look fine. I didn't wrap the connections in electrical tape yet, but the entire connection is incased in plastic and rubber, and it isn't wet.

hmmmm... any thoughts?

well what I don't understand is that if it was the fuse, wouldn't it have not worked to begin with? I'm not too electrically inclined, so I don't know.. I will check fuses on my lunch break though.

EDIT: and what I mean by not working to begin with is, wouldn't it have blown the fuse when I initially turned them on?

the reason i said to chheck your fuses is that you ssaid you had not taped the wires so any bare wire could cause a fuse to pop but if the fuses are good that means powers is good so i would then check connections and then go to ground because if it is loose then you will have no contact source for your circuit.

ah. I see. Yeah I'll check here in an hour. I would have wrapped it up, but we didn't have any tape sitting around frown.gif

Well I checked the fuse....

The two contact patches looked burnt and the plastic part had a little crack in it.... That can't be good. The piece in the middle was still connected, but I am going to replace it anyways. So is that bad? burnt connectors?

Thats what I was going to do, except the spares are 10,20,30. The one for the lights is a 25 and it is a little bigger than the others.

Hmm, not to get off topic but is it bad to use a bigger fuse in a smaller one's place? Like, for the interor lights and stuff its a 10amp i think, and i'm useing a 30. is that bad?

EDIT: the reason i'm useing a bigger one is because the 10 just kept blowing. and even a couple of the 30's blew. but that was due to a short by two wires touching.

From what I understand is that you should not go bigger because it will allow more current through, which is dangerous. 10 amp or smaller

Yeah if you open up the large fuse box by your intake there will be spares. Flip the fuse box cover over and look at the diagram underneath. I have 3 spares. a 10, 20 and 30amp

You shouldn't use a Higher amp fuse to replace a Lower amp fuse. Especially if the 10amp one keeps blowing. It's blowing because of a short (as you already know). The correct solution would be to find the short and fix it. Placing a 30amp fuse in place of a 10amp fuse defeats the purpose of having a fuse becuase it allows too much current to pass, and would damage your wires after so long. It's definatly a lot easier to replace one fuse now, than to replace your wires later. It's also a fire hazzard as well.

So i assume i should go and buy some new fuses tommorow? I think it needs at least a 15 though, because i remeber i blew a 10 (or it may of been a 5) I'll just get a multi pack of fuses and start with 10 and if that blows, i'll move up, so on and so on. but it might not blow. Like i said i'm almost postive it was just a short. -cnelson. smile.gif

no no no no no. You do NOT replace a 10amp fuse with a 15. You do NOT. You must use the same amp fuse or LOWER.

Is it that big of a deal replacing with a higher amp? I mean, they are only LED lights... Now i'm not even sure what size the original fuse was. Does anybody know of the size of the fuse for the gauge lights?

LED's don't need much power to run. A 5-10 amp fuse is good enough. If you want to continue replacing fuses or melt your wiring then go ahead and put in a 25 or 30.
