QUOTE(popstar @ Jan 10, 2006 - 3:08 AM) Yo Guy's...... this is scary, how often have some of you changed you CV axels ??? i've got to change mine and it's gonna cost me best part of $500 just for the parts plus maybe waiting 6 weeks (worst case) to get them from Japan (remember i'm in Russia) what the life expectency on the CV axel cause i'm thinking i should order the other side at the same time if they go regular ?????? it all depends on how you drive. ive seen some last as long as 100,000+ miles while others go sooner. mine went early because they kind of got tossed around during my engine swap. since i put new ones in, i didnt have any more issues. here in america, we have a lot of companise that take in your old axels and rebuild them for about 75$ with lifetime replacement warrenty. i know that if i was to go to the local toyota dealer here, it would be around 250$ per side for brand new ones. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

I just replaced mine last summer and they already went out on me. Most likely because I got rebuilds by CCT before I got advice from ^ on getting rebuilds from carquest.

I had the same problem while doing my axles, except I had trouble with the passenger side. The driver side popped right out. For the other, I tied a strong rope to the axle behind the big piece of metal just outside the differential. It took me and 2 other guys to jerk it out. This was done after prying, pulling, crying, kicking, and cursing.
Use EXTREME care when changing seals. It's tricky finding a spot to pry them out easily. I found it much easier to take a flathead and a hammer and make a little dent in it, and then prying around that dent. This post has been edited by Delta_Phoenix: Jan 12, 2006 - 8:52 PM |
