So i had an interview today and it sounds like i got the job. they even asked the president of the current company im at how soon they could have me
i didnt bring up salary at the interview cuz im very shy asking for money. Once i told my parents i didnt bring it up they got pissed and said u call the guy tonight after you get off work and bring it up and say your not working for less than 13 dollars an hour. and im like ok ok! and i do think im worth 13 and my two bosses here i think i should be getting 14 or 15 bucks...but how do i call and ask the guy this? i was thinking id call and say Hi this is natalie and im sorry but i forgot to bring up during the interview the topic of salary. Considering id be working in seattle and having to hopefully find free parking on the streets or pay for parking i need to ask for a minimum of 13 dollars an hour anyone else got any suggestions -------------------- Cruisin down the street in my Infiniti...always lookin for my next trip to Sin City

Maybe a professionally-written letter would work better. That would be my thinking, but I have no idea really...I've been working here developing software/websites for 3.5 years and I'm still making $9 an hour.

I would not do it over the phone, do it in person, and be very seriouse about it, you have to get him to think of you as a perfetional and worth the money, witch he may already think, but a quick phone call will not help that out. Just call him up and ask if you could have a quick meeting to go over the finances/waiges. he may just wana do it over the phone but offer the meeting so he knows your willing to go down there and talk in person, (force him to make the choice so you dont have too)
future note (you probibly already know but i'll say it anyway): always when they ask "any questions" or "any last comments" or whatever, ask a few random things like (what is the work envirorment, or do you feel your employees are happy) then ask about money, but always after something else so that it does not look like thats all you care about, even though it is to most people. Update: dont ask for that much right off the bat, and just because your old boss thinks you should be making that does not mean your new boss cant go hire someone else for less, ask how much it pays first, then ask for more etc. This post has been edited by creis: Dec 21, 2004 - 7:59 PM -------------------- |

It's doubtful you'll get that much. Your parents are just kinda crazy.
I'd settle for 11. |

Wait til they offer you the job and than ask about the salary. You calling them now and asking about the money before you have a definite answer on whether you have the job or not makes you sound like that is all you are interested in. I would also ask about benefits when they offer you the job, benefits if very good can take the place of a few dollars in salary.

i was going to say, most professional level jobs will send you a formal offer and you will have X days to accept it. congrats on the new job
i botched mine up i recieved my formal offer with a 7 day acceptance grace period and on the 6th day accepted it, not waiting for the other interview i had to get the chance to make me an offer, well on the 7th day a person from the other company called me appologizing they hadnt got my letter out to me yet because of a problem with their express mail carrier and she was going to give me the offer over the phone. unfortunatly i think that job would have offered more and it was working on engine harmonics and sound tuning (IE: making a honda sound like a honda and a ferrari sound like a ferrari by tuning the harmonics) woulda been some cool shiat -------------------- Believer, you'll leave her, in leaving them all No but I don't buy it Like anything you do, as anyone you are Cause I'm... hahaha, so true, you should ask what range they are offering, then choose mid range or the high end, if you demand the higher end you have to justfy your skills or that your worth it, I always sell myself short on job interviews, still do it today even when i know better. |
