Hypothetically, if I or someone like me were to race, from a standstill, in an auto ST, would our best bet be to: a) Leave the car in drive with overdrive off and just mash on the gas b) Start in L, shift up to 2 when nearing redline, then shift up to drive when nearing redline in 2 c) Either of the above with some other techniques added in. Hypothetically, of course |

Race and auto ST don't generally go in the same sentence. What are you racing?

Left foot press brake, put into D, while holding brake, right foot press gas and hold rpm at about 3500 - 4000.
Best for quick star... Wanna break your gear box? Same thing, only press gas till 6500 rpm and hold brake for some time... It's not a set race for money or nething, just when we see each other we go for a spin, it's been pretty even so far. I would almost never put money on my car in a race (at least in its current state). |

But that would be the best way to do it.. Unless you want to damage your drivetrain.. Then there are other ways.. Like rev it up in neutral, then drop it to drive.. |

yea auto sucks but ive leared that the best bet is to keep OD off then start on 1 go up to about 20-25MPH then shift to 2 then at about 40-45 shift to D but all in all auto we get ripped off

Ummm yea, dont take racing in an auto st too serious. As far as cars in its class...it can keep up with an automatic non z24 cavalier.....thats about it. Although once I did own a 5 speed 6cyl mustang off the line but I dont think that guy knew what he was doing
And please drive responsibly EDIT: ^ That was with my first 94 Celica ST....I sold that slug and got the 5 Speed GT. Night and day man. Ahh yea but I have done it where you hold the brake firmly down and get the rpms up as much as you can without your car moving. It works. Take your shoes off too....It gives you a better feel for the gas pedal when your barefoot. This post has been edited by 1900WattCelica: Dec 22, 2004 - 11:15 AM |

Don't do a neutral drop (what mac suggested) it's too easy to **** up and kill everything.
Brake in drive (with OD off) until 2500. Let go of brake and go. When you're in third and around 5500 RPMs, turn OD back on. |

For launching I just hold the brake rev to 3k and let her go while in D. I don't know anything about OD so I keep it on the whole time. About your paint. Is that the color of the Nissan Skyline GTR34's? Bayside Blue? Or not? -------------------- |
