ok, here is the deal, I don't know anything about car audio, by anything, I mean anything. For me, just pressing play and stop is basically the extent of my knowlege. BUT... I figure I need to get a new system just to get by at shows. I decided on decking my car out momo style so I am going to get the new polk/momo speakers and the 12" sub.

My question is, what else do I need to get for this system to work well, keeping the same quality that was intended for the speakers. What level should I run everything at? any suggestions or anything at all will greatly help, even if it is just to tell me how stupid I really am.

Thanks,
¤Chrí§¤

Oh yeah, it also has a crossover, I don't even know what that is.

You'll need amps, a head unit, a custom fiberglass enclosure(Not required, but recommended for show use. wink.gif), lots and lots of sound deadener, wire, and some other miscellaneous stuff. A car show quality system is gonna require a lot of time and money and work. An excellent site for car audio is http://www.elitecaraudio.com.

Well best thing to do is to buy a componet set for your mids and highs. You goign to need a amp wiring kit, like 8 to 4 guage. * is prob enough depending on the number of amps. A good head unit is recomended but not needed. YOu doing the work yourself?

I'm not too knowledgable, so don't take me as the bible. But if you have the cash, I'd go with an Eclipse Audio amp, maybe head unit as well. Best you can get, hands down. In terms of head unit, if you have a good amp it shouldn't matter what your head unit does. Obviously, at car shows, the flashier and cleaner the better. Upper Kenwood and Pioneer models are both flashy and high quality. I'd steer clear of Sony.

the head unit the the last thing you should worry about cause they are so many good ones out there. if i was you i would go with a Pioneer cd/mp3, change the interior speakers and get and amp for the 4 interior speakers and one for the 12" sub and you will need a copasider

I agree with Zoom, Sony makes sweet TV's and such but they're head units are terrible, especially their
X-plode series. I get mad props for my high-end Kenwood double-din....plays CD's/MP-3's and has a 4 in-dash minidisc player. If you want some stuff nobody else has, look at some Japanese websites or a place called Autobacs (it's one of the biggest mass audio/performance retailer in Japan) that's where I got mine. Good luck!!

Check your head unit to see if it has the RCA sockets at the back.
If not, you'll need to change the head unit in order to run an AMP.
(I recommend an Alpine head unit - specialist manufacturer of autoradios).
If it has the RCA sockets then you don't need to change the head unit.
You'll need an 4 channel AMP, RCA cord, 2-4 RCA cord extension.
The 2 into 4 RCA cord extension gives you the possiblitiy to use the head units fade/balance speaker system control and also to be able to connect up a sub-woofer unit by bridging 2 of the AMP channels.
Speakers (Oxygen, JBL, Vocal, ....) but to use the original 6GC speakers brackets they have to be 16.5cm diameter.

I'm in the process of doing all this, so if you have any questions regarding installation, fire away.

P.S. I have a wiring diagram of my set-up integrated into the standard 6GC wiring system.

OK about sony, I have had a couple and have had no problems with them. Im very happy with it. When I get around to upgrading my system I will probably stick with the sony. Just to add something about there stuff, I have a pair of 30 year old sony speakers that hit better and sound better than a lot of the stuff out there now.

Have the wiring diagram on my PC here (format = visio or jpg).
Unfortunately, I do not appear to have anyway of posting it.
So, anyone interested in it can send me a PM.
