Hey, i've got a Curren with a 3S-GE enigine and i'm wanting to scrap the stock air intake and replace it with a Pod filter.
I went to pick up a filter and adaptor plate and the guy had a look at the stock set up and said i didnt actually need the adaptor and all i'd need to do was get some pipe to connect between the current plastic tubing (i'm guessing it's plastic) and the airbox and drill a hole in the new pipe so that the 'map sensor' can go in. So, question - Does this piping need to be made of metal, or can it be like PVC drain piping? i'm thinking metal, but PVC piping would be easier to work with... I'm also planing on leaving the bottom of the airbox in place and sitting the pod filter inside the base (without the top half) so that it acts as a heat shield (not sure how effective this will be, but better than nothing?) Does what i am planning to do sound OK? I'm wanting the noise, but also want to prevent losing HP from sucking hot air... I can post pics of the current set up if that would help? |

most people use metal piping, but i have seen people use pvc pipe as a cheaper alternative.
Rumors have been that if pvc pipe heats up it can release harmful fumes. I personally would go for the metal piping for looks. The how-to articles on this website will be helpful . |

Thanks for the reply, i've decided safe bet is to go with metal piping.
I'm not replacing the standard tubing that goes from the intake manifold to the the air box, but i'm unsure what to do with the resonator(?) box. should i leave it on or remove it and think of something to cover the hole so that the path from the pod filter to the manifold is less obstructed? I've put some pics in my profile of the intake. i've had a look at the how-too's but nothing seems to be quite like what i'm doing, and also i'm not sure of the correct names and whether the 3SGE has the same intake set up as the USDM engines... Hopefully the pics work |
