I'm no expert, but with that kind of budget, and that kind of goal, Id look at two main things....

1- The 3sgte is already going to be out of the car. Get the thing rebuilt! There's no real gurantee on those jdm motors! I'm not sure what the weakpoint in that motor is- Im guessing either the rings or the head gasket, but I shouldn't be guessing, so dissmiss that- and upgrade it during the rebuild.

2- Have your turbo modified. Turbo's come in halves! Find out is you can just upgrade half your turbo and achieve that sort of result. Again, I'm not the guy to talk to here. Find out who is.

3- Get some fuel management and have it professionallty tuned. This is the main difference between a 300hp daily driver and a 300hp for drag runs on race gas only!

Thats all my advice. =)

I guess that's 3 main things. =)

Oh by the way, MR2 guys are all over this. Theyve come up with every which way to get 300hp. And 400...

Anyhow go look up an MR2 site. You'll get alot of great ideas.

Rebuild the 3sgte, buy a tubular intake manifold, go FMIC, and get it tuned.

just buy a 3rd gen 3sgte and up the boost and put a full exhaust and front mount intercooler on...It will be around 300hp...crank hp that is.

i was gonna say invest in MR2T tranny or some form of LSD, because im not sure 300hp on a daily driver is too practical when it starts to rain/snow

Make sure you get a 93+ MR2 turbo transmission with LSD. This is CRUCIAL to put the power to the ground or you'll always have trouble with eating tires. You could always so it w/o LSD, via non-LSD MR2 transmission, or the stock Celica S53, but traction would never compare to that of an LSD tranny.

Build the motor, of course.

Finally, look at this Celicatech.com thread: http://www.celicatech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=508

Read up. They're engineering a flange to bolt on any Mitsubishi T-series turbo to a stock (or CT pattern flanged) manifold. It will be cost effective (read: cheap!) and will allow you to use any of these great, relatively cheap turbos on your 3S (think big 16G smile.gif)

A Mitsu TD06-16 isn't any cheaper, or more effective, than a similar size turbo. As for the rest of the mistubishi series. There's a reason they're cheap, and there's a reason most of the people who have 3000GT VR4s etc DREAM of a greddy, turbonetics or any other turbo than their TDs.

if you've got a Mitsu turbo laying around free (there's lots of them) then this might be a good investment.. if they're less than 100 dollars. if it's anymore, invest in a real turbo; not something an ebay seller pulled out of a junkyard and polished.

Yes, you can run a t3/t4 turbo on this. Make sure you pick the right trim or you won't see any gains over using a stock CT26. You'll need either a flange to connect to the T3/T4 (check ebay) or a new manifold. I believe Turbonetics makes one.

If you go 2nd gen, you cannot safety reach your goals without EMS. Here is the mod list I would recommend for a safe 300 whp:

1. upgraded turbo w/ external waste gate
2. ems
3. larger injectors
4. upgraded fuel rail
5. supra tt fuel pump
6. fmic
7. fpr
8. water injection
9. proper tuning (do not skimp here)
10. MR2T tranny

I would also recommend a brake upgrade.

Regards, Jay.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

I think you can get 300hp at the crank with stock ecu with what u have listed on a modified CT26 (like CT27).

Also you do not have to get a 93+ MR2 tranny a 91/92 will be fine except the 93+ simply have some kinks wroked out that the previous trannies had.

Or maybe you should talk to Jamasco, who built his engine. Mina didn't know what a freezeplug was until he lost half his coolant through one. Not to mention how many rebuilds he's gone through because of carelessness rolleyes.gif

1sickhb pm'd and asked for a specific part list for a 300whp Celica. I will start a list here and others can add or critique mine:

(assuming 2nd gen)

1. MR2T tranny, MR2T inner axels, 89-91 v6 camry outter axels (I have also heard that alltrac outters will work).

2. Upgraded turbo kit. T3/T4 hybrid or TD06 are probably the most common upgrades. Also, get an external waste gate. A tial 38mm or 44mm are good choices.

3. Stand alone engine management. There are alot of choices out there. Some examples are Hydra Nemisis, Autotronic, AEM, Haltech, SDS, Tec3, etc. Each have pluses and minuses that you should research before buying however most will do the job. The best thing to do is pick one that your tuner is familiar with. I would not go with a SAFC or other black box for tuning. Again, some will disagree here but its a safety issue. There are some hybrid black boxes out there that come close to having all the features of a standalone but the prices approach the cost of standalone. An example is the SMT-6 or SMT-7 systems.

4. Minimum 550cc injectors. If I were doing it, I would go at least 720's.

5. Upgraded fuel rail. Wolfkatz, ATS, ChrisK, Hux, etc.

6. Adjustable Fuel Pressure regulator

7. Supra TT fuel pump

8. Front Mount Intercooler. Again, there are many out there that will do the job. Search for a thread that Manny posted (Presure2) about selecting an intercooler.

9. Intercooler piping

10. Water injection system. Joe O. or Aquamist are good choices for the 3sgte.

11. At LEAST a FULL 2.5" exhaust. If I did it over, I would get a 3" exhaust.

12. A good tune by a knowlegable tuner - an abosolute must.

13. Guages. Boost and Oil Pressure for sure. Others to consider are EGT, water temp., wideband, and knock sensor. There are many different brands including Apexi, Greddy, and Defi. These are expensive but accurate and reliable. I went with autometer. I am not sure I would do that again.

14. Upgraded clutch. I would go with a Clutchmasters or Spec. If you are looking for a stock feel and do not plan to go much over 300whp, I would recommend a Clutchmasters Stage 3 or Spec Stage 2. If you are going for 325-375, I would go Spec Stage 3.

Some would argue that the FMIC, FPR, Water Injection, Stand alone EMS, Fuel Rail, external waste gate were not totally necessary. The fact is that you COULD get 300whp without any of them. However, IMO its not a good idea. Other considerations are lightened flywheel, aftermarket intake manifold, cams, steel head gasket, ARP studs, and forged internals. Again, not necessary but most would provide a larger safety margin and some would give you more power.

If you have an ST, I would definitely get a brake upgrade. Suspension modifications are also a good idea.

Finally, RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH. Do not merely get something because someone else has it or recommended it. Check with multiple sources and draw your own conclusions. There is a lot of misinformation out there and it is your money. That advice applies to this post and other recommendations that I have provided as well.

If you know your goals are limited to 300whp, I would seriously consider a 3rd gen. - but there are disadvantages to that as well.

- Jay.
