Parking Brake Shoes, Anybody replaced theirs? Options

Has anybody replaced their parking brake shoes on their GT? I want to know if the shoes are something most auto stores carry or a dealer only item. NAPA said they showed them but they were the same part number as the ST rear shoes, which I think is not right.

Un-true, mine were worn out from the iddiot stick before me. You HAVE to go to the toyota dealer ship and order through them. There are 4 different part numbers that you have to order. Mine were down to the rivits, so i ordered and replaced them my self. St drum brakes are to large.

yeah I had to get new ones after I Did my swap, they are not cheap. Like 130 for both sides

I had to change mine because my ebrake was sticking. They're a dealer item only and they're damn expensive.

mine are about gone.. i have to lift up my e-brake up to hell to get it to hold...

so how much did the shoes cost ya'll ?

for that i'll just do a rear disc swap only spend about 70$ more

35 dollars a shoe. Not for a pair but for each shoe. That's $35 X 4 = 140. Too much for **** that does no actual braking.

ib gt and ever car i have seen with rear disk brakes.. the parking barke are drum and shores on the inside of the rotors....

read up a little on the rear brakes first playr before saying something like that. I mentioned the ST brakes are to large. Gt's have disc brakes all round, but, have a small drum like brake with a disc around the outside of it, forming the rear brakes. We're talking about the brake shoes in the drum in the middle of the disc brakes on the rear. They are slightly smaller than the ST brake shoes, can only be purchased through toyota, and ARE EXPENSIVE AS HELL

aite aite, well i can probably get them a lil cheaper then 140....helps to work in a shop and such....but over all that sounds like crap to be worth it.....and anyways doing a rear disc swap as a mentioned would change that e-brake equipment wouldnt it? thats what i'm saying the difference between st and gt ebrake stuff

yeah the ebrake equipment would change. In the ST the ebrake is powered by the rear brakes, in the GT the ebrake is powered by internal small shoes. The cables can be used, you just have to shorten the length of th ST cables.

The GT is the one with the internal brakes that cost so much, all they do is hold when the parking brake is applied. The ST has drum brakes anyways so when you pull the ebrake up it just uses the same brake shoes that you use to stop with. So doing a rear disc swap would make it more costly for you since you don't have the ebrake shoes on your car to begin with, only the GT's do.

Now back on topic: $140 for those shoes?!! Is Toyota on Crack?!!

hey guys, when I needed to change them i had them remanufactured at a brake/clutch reman. shop. it cos me $20 to do all 4.

oh and for those of you who think the drums in the rear disks are not worth it ur wrong. Using it at the same time as braking with the disks (with out making them lock) helps ALOT, as the rear disks in GT's dont have that good of stopping power. If it wasnt for the extra drums there were may times i would not have stopped in time to get out of badf situations. I like to think of it as a 6-part braking system, as i use (and think of) the drums more as secondary's, rather than just parking.
