Well i know that there are different types of turboes and they vary from car to car. So i was wondering if someone can give me an average HP increase that the turbo will add? Or more specifically how much will these turbo kits add and are theyt worth it? Or do i just do the 3sgte swap???...

Burien Toyota turbo kit - priced at $2,500 and includes the following:
Toyomoto exhaust manifold
Garrett TB0344 turbo
down pipe
intake pipe
K&N air filter
intermediate pipe (between the turbo and throttle body)
HKS racing blow off/pop off valve
4 360cc Toyota injectors
map sensor
oil pan
all necessary couplings, clamps, vacuum hoses and fittings required to install the system.
OR
Toyomoto turbo kit - priced at $3,000 and includes the following:
Mitsubishi TDO6 turbo
Toyomoto exhaust manifold
Toyomoto downpipe
Haltech F9 additional injector system w/ additional injector
all nessasary piping and plumbing hoses and clamps
oil line and oil return is also included

well you can get a 5th gen gt-4 3s-gte (actually 2nd gen engine) for around 1500 at the right website (www.jarcoinc.com). and that base HP is 225 and about 187 at the wheels.. the burien kit (owner right here) gives you about 197 and 164 at the wheels. take about 1000 to put the engine in so for the same price you can get 23 more HP and that is all at 8psi. (for both systems) you can boost the 3s-gte to around 15psi on stock internals safely...also with the 3s-gte if you buy certain parts you can get 700+hp easily... the 5s-fe will never get that high...

that's just my opinion...if you disagree please don't talk sh*t about me...just state what you think. I'm sorry that I have to say that but this site is kinda getting like celica.net. Again just my opinion.

most people would go with the swap. so just follow the flow and get an engine swap

it all depends on the amount of boost you plan on running.

generally it is said that 11psi adds 100hp but it varies depending on how efficient your turbo is, what your exhaust is like, how big of an intercooler you have, etc. on the burien site it says that they were at 12 psi with no problems and that is non intercooled, so it could probably take more psi and make power more efficiently

those kits, while complete, are over priced(actually the burien kit is nonintercooled) if you but seperate components it will be much cheaper.

as for a swap, expect to spend $5000 for a complete job with a 225hp st185 clip. the swap will have a lot more down time but a lot more potential as well. you might want to consider emissions, if you have tough emmisions, you better find a friend in a test center that wont mind the missing egr and other emissions controls

really its up to you. if you want power sooner and with less down time, get a turbo kit.

if you can wait, go for a swap and then you can make some real high amounts of power with high reliability.

I believe that you should be able to get to 200HP.

I have not look at the info fully, but I am pretty sure that the 5SFE can hold on to atleast 160-180hp. But do not take my word for it.

The 5SFE from all F engine was really built to handle such stresses that a force induction engine would attained.

But witl forge internals, try it and see.

First of all I'm sorry for putting this in two different forums, i just wanted to see what was the best choice, and what were your opinions. So thanx for your help.

Now, about the turbo and the swap. Another member from toyotacelicaweb.com is doing the 3rd gen. 3sgte swap and he told me its costing him $5000 for the swap plus $1200 for the new paint job and he got the st205 clip. So if thats true then i guess.... i can save up some of that. But of course it will take me longer and i would just hav e the clip laying around for a while until i save the other $2k. I was planning on adding the turbo this June 9th, while i was on a short vacation.
Thats another thing, how long would installing the Burien turbo kit take? or any other turbo kit? I know that 3sgte swap does take some time and patience.
About the boost, I will sowly but surely be making my car faster and faster. Just like everyone is, but i guess if there is somewhat of a limit, i want to go to about 500 hp. Also i already do have a hook up here and there for the emissions test, so i dont have to worry to much about it. Thats mostly why i'm doing this. I've met the right people here and there so I'll hopefully be getting lots of help from my friends.

Well, if no one beats me too it, everyone will say swap it out, unless you want to completely replace ALL of the internals of the 5s to get those numbers.

Edit-
I wasn't beaten until Coomer merged it at the exact same time i posted.

We need to figure out a way to supercharge our cars. I hear GM is about to offer a SC for older model Cavaliers. Didn't somebody say they used toyota 7a's?

I kno that a st185 can be cheaper than $5000

but for all intended purposes, it is ALWAYS better to be prepaired to spend more. what if the engine needs some parts? what if something happens when installing and parts break.

or what if you decide to put in a better flywheel and clutch while the engine is out.

it is going to be a little under $2000 to have a st185 clip shipped to your door, atleast $1000 for labor, might have to have the wiring done by someone else ~$300, then misc parts ~$500

so yeah, you can easily do the swap for just under $4000. but if you have an automatic tranny, the cost will go up $500-$1000

my god 12 psi unintercooled and on stock 5s internals???!! you'll blow the engine to hell with that. 5 psi unintercooled is as much as you should get.

what you do depends on what you want! if you want mad power potential, go 3sgte. if you just want a little more oomph, turbo.

you are right Charlie, but i am pretty sure that they added an intercooler

so if you add an intercooler to the burien kit, supposedly you can run around 12psi.

but remember, do your research.
