Dude, to run 20psi on the 5s is crazy. They must have rebuilt the engine with many name brands.

ive talked to some guys on celica.net who have turboed there cars, and they have ran up to 20 psi on the 5sfe, without problems, and that put more than 250 out, im sure they did a little work on the engine but not alott from what ive heard.

to run 20 psi, you'd need new everything. a stock 5sfe will not handle that. you'd need new rods, pistons, rings, bearings, headgasket, valvesprings, etc. i believe i know the car you are speaking of, and he totally built the engine from the bottom up.

seems like that would be more reliable to turbo and build up the 5s engine than dealing with the swap and the wiring harness and all, damn id do the swap if i had someone to do the harness, i have 3k sitting around but im not sure what i wanna do.

i contacted Burien Toyota, heres what they have to say. They have tested there Turbo Kit, with an extra fuel injector, and intercooler and ran it at 15 PSI. The output was about 250hp. It went an easy 50,000 miles without problems. But if you go ahead and do some internal modifications, Port, Flowed, and polished, maybe some forged pistons youll have no problem. And yes total package price will run u about $2500 for the turbo and maybe another 1000 for the mods. Not bad considering its still legal and you also dont have to import engine parts from Japan..

Is the 20psi driving a JUN engine? biggrin.gif

I believe your local toyota dealer can get 3s parts as easy as 5s and 7a. Remember: the 3s was in america until the end of the MR2 turbo. what, 96?

Ok what if i didn't add the turbo but did make these mods, rods, pistons, camshaft regring, etc... that Charlie said, about how much HP will i end up having? and how much will it end up costing me??

Much of it is used to lower your compression ratio, thus you would lose power.

We need to figure out a way to supercharge our cars. I hear GM is about to offer a SC for older model Cavaliers. Didn't somebody say they used toyota 7a's?

thats geo something(the corolla gm version)
not cavalier

that's what i heard too...that the cavalier really had a 5s-fe in it...which is stupid because my friend has a 2000 and there is now way in hell that he could ever keep up with me even b4 i got the turbo

and don't say that it is the 7a-fe either because it is a 2.2

i am not saying that the cavie does have the 5s-fe...

20PSI @ 250HP is not an impressive # IMO. Not at all. Why do that when you can do it to any honda? Even they can do it and would still produce $hitty gains.

*Sighs* Either go 4aG if you're ST and please don't think it has crap because they're used in corolla's(?) and it is mad fast or go with 3S-GTE or N/A if you're GT. You'll soon find out its potential.

oh BTW,...turbo > superchargers. You seriously will get owned anyways with superchargers which is a waste of money. Shoot no more of this.

I wonder how much hp/tq they be producin out of that 5s

Superchargers are great dude. They don't do any harm to the engine like a turbo, and they don't require all the work and parts a turbo needs. And I thought older Cav's had 7a's in them. I thought that was what I read on a topic way back when.
