Hey everyone, my engine idles real strangely. I start the engine and everything runs fine and I can drive the car, but when I put the car into neutral or park, the engine revs up to 2k as its idle and then bounces between 2k-3k like mad. It sounds like my car is gonna tear itself to pieces!! Whats wrong? Im thinking it has to do with engine timing and if it is how can I adjust it?

It probrably is timing i would think. I only ever adjusted the timing on a ka24de but that was done using a timing light on the main pulley and the timing marks and then twisting the distributor from left to right ti adjust the timing. Not sure if toyota engines are the same but i am sure google would have all the info for adjusting the timing on your specific engine.

i think there is an idle controller to when you put it in park. you have OBD I. does it throw a check engine at all.

I doubt its timing, you could have a bad sensor or an air leak somewhere causing it to run lean and idle higher than it should.

When did you last take it for a service? it can be dirty injectors/fuel filter or even sparks(though i doubt it)

Try driving it hard for 10-15 minutes to clean up the fuel system.

I am no expert but my Curren had similar problem with high CO2 and the inspector told me to drive it hard for a few minutes and then come back, and what you know that fixed the problem.
