Hi guys, first post for me
I have a 12" infinity sub which I have built an mdf box for and sits in half the boot slightly above the spare wheel (will get pictures on here soon!. Sounds great and was fun to build as well as a great learning experience, however I'm a bit of a perfectionist and am considering redoing the job to get a snugger fit in the boot and accommodate a power cap. Have to say that the shape of the boot is a real b***h to try and fit a sub box hence I ditched the original. I'm looking for inspiration and ideas on ways round this problem and am sure you guys are the ones to ask! I'm considering removing the spare wheel as a last resort and would like to ditch the shelf without making my toys obvious to thieves cos it rattles like hell. Would love to hear your ideas and to see some pics of how you guys got around it... Cheers.... |

Hi Scarrell,
I like what you've done there, if you can fit a 15" sub in the space of the parecel shelf then I should have no trouble gettin my 12 in there. Did u keep the spare in its well? What do you recon about adding another layer of mdf to the top so that the sub is 'sunken' slightly allowing it to be coved with the cloth and keeping it outa sight, would this degrade the sound?. Also, is it necessary to have the port on the same face as the sub cos i dont wanna cover that and restrict its flow. Cheers, |

thank you, i plan on rebuilding a new box,, that one is kind of... well... crappy i think... anyway its better to have the port on the same side as the sub because of the sound waves....adding another layer of mdf and having the sub like you are wanting would work as long as the subs surround doesnt touch the cloth... make sure whatever you use(cloth or whatever) is nice and tight so it doesnt get lose and make unwanted noise...also the purpose of my vent was for tuning.. its there for a purpose, not like some prefab crap you find at car audio stores... i built it specifically for the sub.... and yes the tire is still there.. it took my friend quite a bit of time to design the box for me but it turned out great... oh and if you are building the box or having someone do it, dont forget to add the extra layer of MDF to the cf.... and no covering the vent with cloth will not mess it up as long as its transparent, as long as air can go through it you should be fine.. just make sure its really tight because as i said it may cause unwanted noise.. also since Infinity is more SQ based, i dont think porting it will sound too good, ive always found them to sound best sealed anyway, sealed is better for all around music(metal, rap, techno..etc.) my box is made to get loud and louder.. but i only have a 150rms to the sub out of the 750rms it handles soo.. it gets considerabely loud but not as loud as it can be..
