I'm just curious as to if anyone's car has or had "Shady Mechanic Work" on their car when they got it. You know...stuff just done to get it done, but not done right.
My purple Celica that I'm parting out definitely fits this. Just the other day I pulled off the door panels so that I could pull off the mirrors. When I pulled off the passenger side door panel, I found a 8" no-name speaker(Remember, this is a non-power options car with 6.5" speakers from the factory) screwed directly into the metal with wood screws. And the other side of the car has the stock 6.5" speaker in the plastic mounting bracket. When I pulled out the Sony cd player(It was broken, but that should be assumed with Sony.), the stock stereo harness was hacked off and the CD player's wires were just connected directly to the stock wires. Soldered? Nope. Crimped? Nope. Twisted and taped with masking tape? Yes. When I was pulling out the glove box, I wondered why it wasn't coming out after removing all the factory screws. Turns out the previous owner put two extra sheetmetal screws in the side of it closest to the door. Also, one of the factory bolts on the passenger seat was replaced with a drilled hole in the rail, a sheetmetal screw, and a big washer. There's an old, old, old siren in the engine bay and a little LED light under the dimmer switch, but the wires just connect to each other with a wire crimp. I would be so mad if I'd bought a nice car and found stuff like this. But the purple Celi is only a parts car, so it's all good. Still, the previous owner/bodyshop/whoever should be locked up for Celica abuse(and painting the car purple.) My yellow Celica had the stereo harness hacked off by my friend before I knew anything and let him install my stereo. Since then though, I found a junkyard Toyota, cut the stereo harness, and soldered it back on, and now my stereo is installed correctly. My mechanic lost one of my upper radiator brackets, so we had to make a custom one that was ugly, but now it's replaced with one from the purple Celica. Anyone else experienced this with their Celica? Edited for John. This post has been edited by Coomer: Jan 13, 2005 - 7:17 PM -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

umm that would be doing stuff to my car. Every time i do somthing i loose a screw, then can find one top put back in, but once i find a celica at the junk yard it will be all good, but thats only like usless interior screwes any ways.
My thought is, if you end up with extra parts and it still works, you've just made it moree efficient |

my story beats this one. i was replacing a window regulator in my dad's 94 camry cuz the window when he bought it wouldn't go down and over time it fell a lil and left a gap. when i pulled the panel off i notice a stick chillin in the back and some speaker wire was holding up the track. soon as i ripped the stick out the window fell like 6" i just about cracked up. so then i go and show my dad and he got a kick out of it. but the regulator is in and works fine.

I hacked up my stock door speakers so that I could use them as brackets for some 6.5" Kenwoods I put in their place. I cut out my cigarette lighter so that I could put my AFC in its former location...
Is it ghetto/redneck that my Rev/Speed meter is mounted over the (disconnected) stock clock? I have a clock on my CD player, so it was useless to me. Oh, I also have no rear seats or trunk interior. That in and of itself is pretty bad, but I have come to prefer it that way. |

Exgirlfriend and I (mostly her) put a mesh grill on my car. It's tied together with zipties. You can find zipties and 3M double sided tape everywhere on my car. Gotta give her credit on the grill. It's fackin neat. And still there. She was a crafty one.

Check this out when i first got my kit put on I went to a shop that swore they could do the work. (Colcraft Inc Lynn Ma dont go their) So I had my car in their shop 6 months and at first they told me two weeks but thats a whole other story. Here are the things wrong with my ride when I got it back.
1. broken glass still in the car 2. I turn on my rear whipper and they put it on wrong the thing flipped up on top of my wing 3. The sun was in my eyes I flip down my remote start atenna comes down and hit me in the head. They just tucked it under the visor 4. No heat 5. no ac 6 dripes in paint front and rear 7. inch and a half gap between kit and headlights and it wasnt even cut straight it looked like someone atually chewed on the edge. no lie 8. stole my fire extinguisher 9. alignment way off. 10.no parking light bulbs 11. the worst molding job i ever seen in my life.Looked like they just used calking to me 12. dude tryed to charge me double and said i should have known the price he quoted me would be more 2xs more. After that experience I taught myself how to do body work. And basically re did my whole car the folowing summer. |
