Hey guys, if the car weighs in the 2000's of lbs, why does my tag say 3495lb (assuming total) and then FR 2150lb and RR 1860lb? Where are you guys getting this other weight from, if not by the tag on the car, inside the car door?

That's the GVWR, gross vehicle weight rating. That's if you have 4 of the fattest people you can find in your Celica, and each of you has brought as much luggage as you possibly can, and the car is full of gas. It's the most that the car should weigh.

QUOTE
Definition: Gross Vehicle Weight Rating

It’s how much weight a vehicle is designed to carry. The GVWR includes the net weight of the vehicle, plus the weight of passengers, fuel, cargo and any additional accessories. The GVWR is a safety standard used to prevent overloading.

3495 seems like a lot, even with the heavy 5S-FE. My insurance card says 2409, which seems a bit low. This is probably dry weight, not curb weight.

Curb weight on the AT200 is 2415 (with all fluids). Our cars are feather weights! tongue.gif

The ST204 is around 2550, and the ST205 is ~3000

EDIT: I have only been on these forums about a year now and have answered this question about 3 times. You fail at searching, random.

Well I have looked up stuff online but i got different answers all the time, which is why this was brought to my attention and I posed the question.

1 site said the Celica weighed 2700 (roughly) and another said 2400 (roughly), and then said the coupe is 10lbs less than the hatch. I looked at those tags on gross weight, because I didn't know what else to go off of and figured the weight would be on the actual vehicle, as that information is kind of necessary when shipping across seas. I didn't know where else to look. I decided to have a look when I questioned the weight of the MR2 and it's gross said something like 3300lb.

So now I am all kinds of fogged up, mudder fogger. tongue.gif

The trim level has a lot to do with it.

If you have an ST model with no options, manual windows, no AC, no sunroof, etc... you will weigh a lot less. Chaos, my 5th Gen ST tips the scale at 2300lbs with me in her. She has gone on a minor diet.

I have seen 'stripped' hatches with the 5SFE that weigh in at 2500lbs.

Options and engine weight have A LOT to do with it.

As for how I know what Chaos weighs, unlike others who rely on random numbers thrown about, I weighed my car on a CAT certified freight scale.

Faust:
Gross weight is the total weight of the vehicle plus the total carrying capacity. Curb weight is just the weight of the vehicle including all fluids. Your owners manual tells you the max carrying capacity, so just subtract that from the gross vehicle weight.

I believe the carrying capacity on my AT200 is 700 lbs last time I checked. Yours is probably more.

Just because all Celicas you have seen have A/C doesn't mean they all came with A/C.

A/C was an option. Not all Celicas have them. I don't quote for 6th Gens, but the 5th was available without it.
