Carbon fiber is stronger and lighter than what our hoods, doors, and hatches are made out of right now, correct? well, someone with money, could they make full carbon fiber doors, hoods, hatch covers, bumpers, side skirts, mirrors, etc.

I'm not sure what 'understandence' means but yeah carbon fiber is lighter and stronger than what our cars of made of (metal, urethane plastic composite). unfortunately its pretty difficult to work with besides doing basic stuff like overlays. making complex parts means vaccum bagging which requires expensive equipment and plenty of labor.

Not many people would do a one-shot large size carbon fibre piece.
If you want it to be good you have to layer it an autoclave it and do all sorts of fun stuff. Takes practice and lots of money. If you get an autoclave off ebay let me know and I'll come play. -------------------- |

And that is why its so much harder to build in traditional sections, and thus why it has to be built and shipped in very large sections, and why they are designing another plane designed specifically to to ship the peices of the 7E7 from Japan. Now think about the trouble it would make for a car... p.s. 'understandance' isnt a real word -------------------- Its Orville's Celica, i just drive it... |
