maybe someone who knows materials better will correct me on this but...

I dont think carbon fiber will melt. If anything at some temperature the carbon will reform into a more stable graphite. But before that happens the resin that bonds the carbon fibers together will break down.

Anyway, at the temperatures at which the above might happen, you will also need to worry about your cast iron turbo melting. So i wouldnt worry about it too much as long as they are not touching. The air between them should insulate it enough.

CF will catch fire smile.gif

It won't MELT tho; and it won't catch fire at temps that won't have already melted your turbo. It's possible, if your turbo starts to melt, your engine blows; THEN your hood will catch on fire.

the CF brakes on the MB SLR have a tendency to catch fire smile.gif

itchy, you don't have nothing to worry about. It can catch fire if you light it. It wont catch fire from the heat of the turbo.

Besides that, since you did you your hood from VIS, remember that the hood is made of fiberglass with a CF overlay. I have a VIS hood on mine, and i push the car to hell every day. The turbo does produce a lot of heat, but you'll be OK.
