cap and rotor?
that would be a distributor cap
and the rotor that goes inside of it
this is normal replacement for a tune up

Oh, distributer cap and rotor. I'll take a look at it, but if it doesn't really have any visable wear or build up on it, I'm not sure I'll change it.

Thanks for the input though.

I think I've finaly got enough info to be at least pretty well satisfied with what I'm getting. I'd like for poeple to post things if they would like. It never hurts to have to much information. Thanks to all who put there opinion.

NGK V-power copper or Platinum plugs
NGK premium wires
K&N Air filter (I don't have the $80 to spend on apexi)
What ever seems to be the best Fuel Filter I can get from Advanced
Possably Distributer Cap and Rotor

Just incase your wondering why I was kind of pushing for stuff from the local auto parts store, my uncle (owns machanic shop) gets about a 40% discount there. My dad (Bdoy Shop owner) gets a discount from the dealer, but's it's only like 20%.

Your topic reads "complete tune-up". I think you are forgetting a few things if you are going that route: timing belt, tensioner, idler, oil change, filter, tranny flush and fill w/filter, chassis lube, etc, etc.

Guys, just get off brand air filters, they're all made outta the same crap. Don't get me wrong, k&n and apex is great and better then pep girl's ricey filters. But you guys seem to not realize, you'll never see a difference between filters, cept in your wallet

I just changed my timing belt, and the tensioner pully is fine, idler what?, oil change is pretty much a given, if you read my info you'll see I have a manuel tranny and I just replaced the cluch and put in new synthetic tranny lub, and chassis lube what? I'm not talking about restoring the car, I'm just doing a tune up besides plugs. And this forum is open for sugestions on what else I should do and what kinds of things, so if you have any more info on what I should do or things that I didn't understand that you said, please write. Thanks.

And the air filter post: Do you really think they are all the same? I've never had anything but the "cheaper" kinds. It'd be cool if they were all the same though. I've heard that they were before, but it was from the guy at autozone, and we all know how they can be sometimes.

I bought a K7N airfilter. Can't really notice a performance gain. I guess MPG went up a lil. The thing is that its a lifetime filter so its worth the money

I've used the cones on every car I've had, they've just all been the autozone/advanced brands. I really think these things work if you put them in the right place. If your going to leave it up top like the short ram air things, then you'll notice a small difference. But if you run it down under the motor or in the fender, you'll see a good bit more gains. I've had the actual ram air (forced air) on my car, and thats what I like best. I've just got to find a way to make it work the way I want and look less getto.

bosches are ment for domestic cars, not imports. For imports, NGK and Denso Iridium are the way to go.

Iridium and platinum plugs are just a waste of money unless you're too lazy to change plugs or are running 300+ HP out of the engine. Come on guys, these are CELICAS! On average we're makin what 135 HP out of a GT? Get some copper Densos or NGKs for like $1.29 a piece and put them in the car. I guaruntee you you won't be able to tell any difference from those to an expensive iridium plug. As for plug wires, any of that "Autozone" brand crap, especially if there like painted wires and stuff aren't meant for performance. Just replace your OEM wires or like you said the NGK premium wires, but they won't provide any real gains.

Same goes for air filters, there is no difference between different brands for a stock air filter.

Woah, dude, mine didn't look anything near that bad and I had it in for 100K!!!! Is moisture getting in there somehow? The photo makes it look like rust. Mine just had some white corrosion on it. Is the gasket intact around the distributor cap?

Where does one get a cap and rotor anyway? I only have a Pep Boys in town and don’t really trust them.

As far as plugs, I have always heard that iridium and platinum and all of those fancy ones are a waste. They are just coated copper and they corrode faster because they are coated. If you can find silver plugs, they are the best conductor and corrode much slower. I wonder if anyone makes silver rotors and caps?
