The header will fail visual inspection unless it is a CARB certified header. The exhaust won't affect much so long as the CAT is still there.

California is definitely the Smog Nazi of America, but I thought there were some locations you could find that didn't visually inspect?

I've never got tested in Cali, but I find it hard to believe that they'll take the time to remove heat shields and parts to inspect every car and trucks header certification.
I'm sure someone will post some experiences they've had...sooner or later. -------------------- ![]() |

Umm... it's not exactly hard to tell if the engine is running an aftermarket header or not. If you think a heat shield can cover it up... well... haha... As far as experience goes... considering I work at a shop that does smog checks... I'd say it doesn't get more detailed than that... ![]() -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... like kwanza said...it wont pass visual #1...and the header eliminates your primary cat..even if you pass visually, you may not pass the sniff test...id say just save your stock manifold and primary cat, and use anitseaze compound on all the threads when you install the header so you'll be able to get it off and on for inspection.

So you'd still need to look for the certification. I don't know where this certification is normally posted (which is why I'm asking). Are they all located in a clear line of sight? Thanks Kwanza -------------------- ![]() |

Thanks Kwanza It's labeled right on the header... usually along with the manufacture's stamp. Some companies, such as TRD, will require you to send in proof of purchase and then they'll send you a little card or something with CARB numbers on it. -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl...
