My rents are about to build their dream house on 5 acres of land. My mom already designed the floor plans and they are building me a pool house to live in over the summer.

Now they want some cool electronics and other cool gadgets in their house but they are pretty much behind the times.

Now my question for you is: What gadgets would you put in your house, and keep it legit cause a personal midget doesnt count.

I told them about the touch screen remote controllers that run everything in the house. But i have no clue what they are called and where to find them. Any help would be great.

electrochromic privacy windows.

fully electronic central home security/monitoring system.

wireless internet access throughout the home.

flat panel HD televisions.

fully integrated home theatre system w/ surround sound, and cd/mp3/etc player.

you could go as far as to get voice-activated mood lighting/event lighting settings/etc etc. cool stuff, but not that practical...

i'll think of more later...

oh, and the remotes...there's this one:

but this one is more new..and sexier.. Phillips ProntoPro.

they are the windows where you hit a light switch type panel, and they can either tint, or become completely opaque instantly. they are SO sexy...

Depending on the price an all You can do lots. I love this stuff, and am planning to do mine soon. As soon/somtime going to be an architect theres millions of things.

I would start with a nice alarm. Some video cameras and a monitoring center.
Second, set up a main comp for the house, and run speakers to control it. Also set up dif settings to each room to control the lighting tewmp and music. Then get some auto blinds.
set up and wire for a ghome theater.

I would say for starters look around at some high end electronic stores, and ask them what all the can do and get some quotes.

Circuit City has HD ready 42" plasmas for 1800 bucks now. And HP just came out with a home theatre system that's actually a slim Pentium 4 computer (about $3000). It comes with the computer, plasma monitor, and surround speakers.

I've always wanted to have every appliance/electronic/lightswitch wired to a network so that I can remotely do anything from my PDA or a remote computer. As well as a security system so I can remotely monitor video cameras throughout the house etc. I'm not sure how much this would cost but I know the technology is out there for it.

I'm getting some polk audio all around. PLK Monitor 60 floor stands, PLK CSi3 Center channel, & FXi3 Rear speakers. Now this isnt the top of the line polk setup but I'm not rich and this will be awesome for me. I also will get an Onkyo 602 and 2nd zone some speakers, Infinity Outriggers, on my front porch when I get my cabin built.
