Whats the difference between a turbo and a super charger??

a supercharger's turbing is driven by a belt attached to the crank, which results in immediate boost, but it is limited by the pulley ratios. so you can't "turn up the boost"
a turbo's turbine is driven by the exhaust gases exiting the engine, which, in comparison to a SC, results in lag. however, small turbos applicable to our cars have hardly any lag at all. it's only when you go really really big that lag becomes an issue. -------------------- 1994 Lexus ES300

Yes, but it's useless on our engines unless you were wanting about 400hp. (you would have to build your block and head to hell and back) What happens is you get a big laggie turbo and a decent SC. The super charger boostsyou in low rpm's and the turbo then catches up for real power later in the power band.

yes, it's called twin charging. however, these setups really aren't practical, and are VERY unreliable. but cool to think about.

When you run a twin turbo setup, one turbo is usually a large (T-88) and the other is smaller (T-06) and the smaller one is used to kick the larger turbo on faster.

yea, that's how the supra is done. I'd love to see that twin charge set up. That's what I was hoping to do when I get my 4agze in a few years.

Yea that's what someone would do if they were wanting to race and whoop up on everyone. But i think people that make high HP cars run dual T88 turbos that way they don't get crappy HP results.
