My engine has over 200K on it and I am going to do a rebuild soon. I ahve a few questions about what I should do. I would like to eventually add a turbo so Im not sure what to actually buy. What kind of rods, pistons, etc... for the best compression. I know that a lower comp is better for boost, but If it takes me a while to add a turbo, will the lower comp be more of a hassle until I add the turbo?

Also, what is the talk of a 3 angle valve job on the head? I have an idea, but Im not exactly sure.

Then theres this link of a rebuild kit Kit Is this a good thing to get?

I have looked this stuff up, but I'm still in the learning stage of going about a turbo set-up. I have read it all on this site and I'm just looking for more helpful information about the engine rebuilding

Jeremy

ebay has 7a re-build kits from toyota also. For pistons and such I would also go Toyota.

If you are going to drop the comp. then you will lose power. So if you are going to wait a while then you might want to think about this. Also if you aren't going over about 7-9 pounds of boost then you can still run stock comp. You just need to get stronger pistons so that they don't wear out sooner. Other then that go with a re-build kit from toyota or find a company that can help you out with making your own re-build kit.

this is my $.o2

from past experience on rebuilding high milage engines. I would recomend getting a shop to replace the valve stem guilds and get the cyclinder honed. This is probably a good time to get some 4ag(z)e pistions in. ( i dont know much about this so you will have to ask the gods of 6gc aka dmc doggy nik.. just to list a few) From my perspective, droping compression is as simple as getting a thicker head gasket, because there isnt much after market rods and pistions for the 7afe.. ( i know, i know.. i'm gonna get slapped for saying this.) i just got to stur up some thoughts for kwanza (and others) to straighten things out..

it will be interesting reading this post tomarrow... flame away at me guys!!!!! muahahahaha i hope this helps.

btw 3 angle valve job helps increase air flow and creates a better seal on the valve seat.. hope i didnt tell you something you already know. smile.gif

Pauter rods=700. 4agze pistons with a proper head gasket=3-400$

That's a grand worth right there.

pauter rods = 715$

i wouldn't suggest the 4agze pistons really since it will give you a really high unknown cr and using a 2mm headgasket will drop it but will potentially be weaker

for my setup i'm goin to look into custom low comp pistons for the 7afe so i know my cr and have strong pistons aka forged

4ag are forged, but I agree about the compression. I was throwing that out as the economy option. But hey, if you're going with pauter rods, might as well do it right. wink.gif

Yea, but doning it right allows you more power than a stock 3s. Doing it cheap is leaving in the stock parts and running under ten pounds of boost. That would be enough for about 170-190whp depending on the set up. For some people though, that's just not enough.

ahem, nik.
