id be curious to know what trans they run on the race cars anyways. I mean to make the 3s RWD they need a hyrbid of something?

anyone know. im about to look this up.

ok thought i would add this for you guys.

JGTC no longer runs any 3sgte in the Supras. Thats right i looked it up.

NOW they run 3UZFE motors which are V8 Toyota Soarer motors

heres the specs on the stock motor: 286 hp @7600, 3UZ-FE 4.3-litre V8 engine with Variable Valve Timing



so to end this discussion the only cars running the 3s are now the MR2s.

but as before the 3s was used cause it is a smaller motor therefore it can be placed farther back in the engine bay and lower to the ground to help the center of gravity on the car.

aparently some one made a claim that teh Castrol supra was running 1200hp on a 3s. Even though teh JGTC is regulated rolleyes.gif

The reason I ask is that the largest output I have ever heard of was 800 whp and that was with a 2.4 liter stroker.

They don't *ALL* run the V8... just some teams do. JGTC is regulated by Horsepower... but powerplants, drivetrain layouts, suspension, etc, are still chosen by teams.

On topic now... I think you've completely mis-interpreted Charlie's post. For its time, it's not too far off. Realistically speaking, Celica guys barely ever even do a 3SGTE swap let alone would even attempt a 2JZ swap... so it really doesn't matter anyway. The whole point of the post was to suggest doing a 2JZ swap is not a realistic option. Does EVERY supra turbo have 1000 hp? That alone is a pretty rare feat amougst the Supra people so it's fair to say that argument only holds if a majority of the mkiv folks are boosted like crazy. It's not about which engine is better than which... it's about realistic goals and realistic swap options. For the most part, only about 10% of the Celica community ever do a swap. You make it seem as if we've completely under-minded the 2JZ. I don't think anyone here would argue it's not a great motor... but it's simply not a realistic option... all bias aside.

At which point it's a lot easier to build a kit car from the ground up and hang celica panels off it......

from what ive read about the soarer V8 - itd be easier to fit into a celica than the 2jz perhaps? (just a trivial point)

To address this you could just delete Charles Part 2: Now for the fun part! What you CAN do to your Celica that will make it BETTER and FASTER than the theoretical Celica “Twin Turbo” discussed above.

The first post in that sticky is all good and serves its purpose....steer people away from a 2JZ > 6th gen celica swap. The 2nd post is more the less covered in coomers Feasible Engine Swaps, For the sixth generation Celica Post. The very first paragraph in the body reads:

1. 3S-GTE - This is one of the best engines ever made, and guess what? It drops right in to your Celica, assuming you have a ST202, ST203, or ST204(Which is the USDM GT.) Even if you have a ST(Chassis code AT200), you can still swap this engine into your car. It will just take a bit more work, because you'll need to change motor mounts and your transmission, and a few other things. Why is this engine swap so great? First off, this is the engine used in all of the Celica GT-Fours and All-Tracs; It's made to fit into a Celica! It's also readily available, and often, you can find a ST185(fifth generation Celica All-Trac/GT-Four) front clip(Which is the front half of the car - includes engine, ecu, tranny, accessories, etc.) for around $1,500! The greatest quality about this engine is its power. From the factory, this 2.0 liter, turbocharged engine produces anywhere from 190(USDM ST165 fourth generation Celica) to 254 horsepower(JDM ST246 Toyota Caldina), depending on the generation of the engine. Because of the tuborcharger, this engine has great low-end torque as well, and has a huge power potential. In nearly every Supra that has been built by a tuning company for racing purposes, the powerful 2JZ-GTE engine has been scrapped in favor of a 3S-GTE, due to it's lightness, huge power potential, and it's durability. If you're going to do a swap and you're able to(And willing to do a little more work than other swaps if you've got a ST), this is the engine to swap in to your Celica. Period. This engine will bolt up to any Celica that has a S-series manual transaxle.

by all im talking about the teams runnng supras. its on jgtc website, so i know im right.

i think your right mate !

i can't remember where i found it on the web, but i got a photo of some guy with a V8 4lt engin in his ST185, now that is a monster smile.gif

i think the swap is more possible with thw AWD cars than our state side brothers with there FWD motors !!!!!
