your only option is inserts. koni yellows. get them from shox.com for 600 or so
or you could try bilsteins meant for the 5th gen. should be cheaper |

The fronts of KYB's are inserts too. If I were you Mina, I would choose based on what ride quality you want. Performance and stiff or comfortable and cushy.
..... Actually, in your setup, I would only buy the Konis or coilovers. -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |

I love my setup. The springs and swaybars really give me a performance feel in cornering but the shocks make it so the ride is not overly punishing. That said, I still get a little hood bobbing when performance shifting which is a little annoying. Also, If you buy OEM or OEM replacement shocks on a lowered car, don't expect them to last as long. Maybe a couple years.

KYB GR2 are not adjustable though. The KYB AGX's are adjustable but they are not made for our cars. I believe you need either the KONI yellows or a full dampner kit in order to get adjustable shocks. The dampner kit will run over 1000 though. KYB GR2 you can find really cheap at CoxImport.com, the front are cartridges, which u cant avoid, and the rear is a full replacement. Shouldn't cost you more than about 200 or so shipped.

About Koni they are really good and they give you lifetime warranty. I have front inserts and you can adjust them from somewhere soft stock feel to very minimum suspension travel. |

QUOTE how can you tell when its time to replace the shocks? If they are really bad, there will be almost no recoil if you press down on a front fender really hard then bring your hand off. Before that, you will notice that hitting bumps is not nearly as soft as it once was. -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |

KYB Gr2's are simply factory replacements. They won't out-perform new OEM shocks... but they are cheaper. IMO, as far as adjustable shocks go... unless you plan on racing, there is no need to buy adjustables. They're not neccesarily gonna improve ride quality because adjustable shocks tend to be quite stiff...

They're marketed, designed and sold as replacement inserts... No where in the packaging says they're performance shocks or that they change the dampening characteristics of the stock shocks... Given they are better than "old" stock shocks... but not better than "new" stock shocks... FYI... with Mina's current power (300+ hp)... a softer rear is NOT gonna help him with traction. Your suggestion of GR2's in the rear and Konis in the front... will dramatically hurt the car's ability to stand and launch. It's typically the exact opposite in terms of traction on FWD cars. QUOTE(xxx_mina) Kwanza26 , its gonna be a 500 hp celica... do you think iam gonna use it to race ?i need the koni adjustables, but i cant afford them, iam just gonna get the ebach pro kit and the kyb 2 struts... Adjustable shocks are for road racing. Are you telling me that's what you're looking to build/do? Or are you just wanting a nicer ride with maybe some weekend fun? They're not cheap for a reason. I'm just letting you know to save you some money. Prokit isn't exactly a race spring... hence leads be to think you just want a nicer ride with lowering springs. Adjustables don't really ride any nicer than replacement shocks because they were designed for performance, which typically means stiffer shocks. They may very well ride worse. That being said... you don't "need" adjustables... you "want" them perhaps... My reccomendation... if you're gonna go track, go full coils with adjustable inserts (cheaper method) or full adjustable with dampening (expensive). If it's just some minor fun, a simple lowering kit, which typically increases the spring rates, mated to new shocks is more than enough. Eibach wouldn't be my first choice (too soft for me) but with our limited choices... that's fine. If you're gonna go drag... full adjustable front is nice if you want to adjust every now and then to run drag slicks or something. The trick is with the stiffness. When the car launches, it squats to the rear causeing the weight to shift off of the drive wheels momentarily. With the power you're currently making... that hurts the launch because if you ease the throttle, you lose boost and/or bog the engine. Too much throttle, you burn out. Run hard race springs in the rear (very stiff) and something softer in the front to reduce the weight shift. Not that it matters now... just FYI for future refrence. That would be my idea of a race set-up... When it's all said and done... we drive the car. Choose what fits you best. I'm actually running some fairly hard springs (KG/MM 6.8kg fronts and 4.8kg rear) and when mated to Gr2s... they ride fine. A bit stiff... but fine. Eibach prokit is not anywhere near as hard as mine... so you shouldn't have much to worry about. -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"
