Well I entered the celica in HIN boston april 30th. i keep it clean. and try to make it look nice.
but im kinda scared about shoing it. (ps i know its not a jaw dropping car but its different than most cars around me) so how should i go about presenting it? should i buy some neons lol? i dont know haha. my friend and i who entered his wrx are going to detail the crap out of the cars together. clay bar, polish. wax.. the works. i heard that the judges will look at how clean the door jambs are. anyways give me imput please. maybe a board listing the mods? to let people know for the not celica smart? Tommorow im gunna take pics of it outside if its not raining (on the front lawn since its not registered ) i was driving on the street 5psi jsut to test it out but i dont need the cops to arrest me This post has been edited by x_itchy_b_x: Feb 17, 2005 - 11:51 PM -------------------- |

pfft shows are pointless
cares were made to be driven not to be fawned over and babied... why people do shows in which the point is on cleanliness and low mileage is something I will never understand. Personaly to me a cares worth should be measured in the miles it has gone and the joy it brings to the owner not from the praise of some arrogant judge. |

I think it all depends on the car show and judges. I would say just keep it very clean. I dont like neons much but they do help and are an easy install. Also detail the engine bay and just get every nook and crany.

thanks man. anyway..clean the sh*t outta her. put atleast 3 coats of wax and BUFF it. uhm..i would take off your front bumper if possible and clean up and polish your IC. and like doug said..just make sure you get EVERYTHING. try and get the underbody if possible. that's all i can think of now. that's what we did to my best friends truck...except polish the IC. oh..windex all headlights, tail lights, turns and side markers.

when i show i have made a plaque that has everything tht is done to it, what it is(for the braindead), your name as the owner and some info about the celica. i have also made a album of what it first looked like and what it looks like now with the mods and set it out for people to see. as like the others said clean the hell out of your car judges are very big on this. you don't need the neons unless you want them. also what i do is after you clean you engine and everything under the hood put a light layer of clear coat this will make it shine and make it more showy.it also shows how clean you have the engine. besides that id say have fun and dont worry.

i would actually say that neons will help. You dont have to install them, but portable ones that glow through your grill or under your car would be a nice touch. Also a bit more engine dress up might help; colored hoses and wires, things like that. I see you have done a lot with flat black, but thats really not a show stopping finish.

QUOTE(Digndoug @ Feb 17, 2005 - 11:26 PM) Also detail the engine bay and just get every nook and crany. I`m assuming this is a judged comp - I agree, engine bay will come under scrutiny, give it a steam clean and try to get all the pipes the same colour if you have the chance either all black, all red, all braided etc I judged a car show once and that was one of the things that I looked for, continuity is a good thing. Remove or replace any info stickers that are peeling off or have faded to a point where you cant read them. A new battery always looks better than an old one (a bit anal but a easy fix) or get the old one spotless. Clean the underside of the hood, polish everything as best you can. And a turbo cover plate looks good and removes the "clutter" of a turbo, pipes etc. Painted brake calipers. Shampoo the interior carpet, it always looks better to have a clean interior carpet than car mats but that just my opinion. Also clean the carpet in the trunk. Hide or re-route any power wires you might have for audio installs, amps etc so that you cant see them. I saw one car once where the owner had even chromed the car jack and wheel spanner. (he won) While your lowering your car, give under the wheel arches a good scrub. Make sure the dash is clean but not shiny, use a Matt dashboard cleaner, shiny dash`s look fake somehow. If you smoke make sure all the ashtrays are empty and clean, some judges will check? New wiper blades. Also there are little things like setting you trip meter to zero, making sure the clock tells the correct time, I know it dosnt sound like much but every little helps. I could go on and on but I wont, that should keep you busy for now. Good luck. Just thouight of something else, this sounds dumb but got commented on in a comp I attended once, If you have an aftermarket exhaust, clean the inside if the tip aswell, muck-off is good but soapy water will do the trick, you`ll have to do this once you get to where you are going to display your car. change those side markers to clear before you go to the show. keep the hood closed and add in a neon in the engine bay so that it draws attenion to the hood vent and turbo thats under there.
take a copy of your dyno sheet and tape it to the side of one of the windwos. maby try to do something that has, before turbo and after turbo numbers. a bunch of us went to HIN in AC last year. we were on a mission to find any 5th or 6th gens. only found one of each at the show. . yeah i plan to show with the hood closed since the hood is pretty sweet. i added two white neons on ech side of the vent and it looks pretty cool. i kinda like the amber lol. but if anyone has clear ones they wanna part with, let me know. -------------------- |

A girl with a purple eclipse at a car show i went to had jelly fish painted into the car and everything - it was done well but what an ugly car! anyways she had her car sitting on sand and that was neat.
I hate strobes at shows around a car. I personally dont like when a car has stuff around it. But i know u get points for it at shows. The shows i go to - the judges suck. they usually let people they know get more points. -------------------- Cruisin down the street in my Infiniti...always lookin for my next trip to Sin City

Ha I hope you realize how many hours u gotta put in for a car show. I didnt have time to get mine done but to see what kind of work goes into the ones that are strictly show - its incredible. The furthest I went was taking off my wheels the night before and washing every part of them and they were still called dirty by a judge even though i cleaned them when i got to the show too.

hmmm i might have to go to this....
i heard simple things like making the vents face forward and having the seats equally reclined help. also cleaning up under the car near the struts will help. painting ur valve cover would be a +. if u have a sunroof make sure u clean all of that area out in the cracks |
