I've been researching this and haven't found a concrete answer..
I just got a 6 puck ACT racing clutch put in my car.. I hear a little whistle/grinding noise when shifting into first and sometimes into second.. I've read some sites that say this is common with racing clutches.. is this true.. or is there something wrong with my clutch setup?.. let me know.. knew to me and didn't start making the noise til i had the clutch installed.. wondering if maybe they screwed up installing into my car -Chris |

no i got a race clutch because i wanted something with more grip than stock was for me.. and the price diff was only 40 bucks.. and the pads etc will last longer than if i got a OEM clutch..
also i'll be ready for incase i wanna get something else besides a 5s... sorry just been attacked soo many times from people who have never tried out a racing clutch.. talking how on a stock engine there is no diff.. but i have noticed a big difference.. i can chirp all the way through third gear.. unlike before with the OEM clutch.. yeah i've read that in hondas this happens too.. and only through the first two gears.. but when the clutch finally grabs in thrid it stop making the noise... fine with me.... just was hoping it wasn't a problem.. -Chris |

you may want to take it back to the place that did the install. clutch rattle normally happens when you dont have your clutch adjusted correctly, the pressure plate wasnt cleaned correctly, throw out bearing making noise, etc.
if you paid money for the install... take it back to them and see what they have to say about it. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

If the difference was only 40 bucks doesnt sound like a race clutch, just sounds like its a stage1 upgrade. Is that what it is?

Yes the sound is normal, i have an ACT installed on my celica, don't worry about it, just don't push it too hard....drive normally for a couple of hundred miles. The clutch in the beginning makes much more noise...it will settle though and the sound won't be as loud after a while. Good buy man, enjoy the cluth

I bought a ACT 6 puck clutch.. friends of mine.. on a strip of car shops.. so they all buy parts from each other really cheap.. that's why it oly cost me a diff of 40 bucks for the racing clutch... about $180 for the race clutch...
performance clutch.. etc.. love it.. and now with my new CAI sounds like i've got some power finally -Chris (nezt up is the install of a magnaflow exhaust ) This post has been edited by Dacoolguychris: Feb 27, 2005 - 2:17 PM |

you didnt mention how long you have had the clutch for. if u just got it installed, wait about 500-1,000 miles for it to break in correctly.

No one mentioned anything negative about the ACT clutch, some people experience noise which they say is common on their cars, i have a friend who owns a civic type-r and has ACT installed and makes noise when releasing the clutch after engagin first gear. And as a matter of fact the clutch bites so hard when i upshift from 1st to 2nd the car jumps like a maniac. Don't want to brag or anything, just making a point that i've had my ACT for about 3 months and i am perfectly happy. Anyway not meaning to lash out or anything but a lot of things are explained in this article, you might find it helpful since loads of positive points are pointed out and explained about the ACT Clutch. Enjoy.
