Does the Venom 400 Chip really work, and has anyone noticed a difference with it?

read the reviews, all it does is dump more gas into your engine, basically its just like mashing the gas pedal everytime. I heard it only works well on cars that come with turbo. Somethin about emmisions and the chip over rides the default settings.

Well, I just got my Venom 400 today for $150 used and installed it, minus good instructions. Concidering that I installed it correctly (can someone conferm that the orange wire goes to the map sensor?), the thing seems to be working correctly. EXCEPT, I got a CEL when I started up my car. My first though after I installed it and reved my engine a few times was, "wow, it kind of smells like gas," but after reving a little more the smell went away. I took the Celica out for a test drive and I can DEFINATELY feel a difference. I would probably guess around 5-10 hp gain, honestly. I did the CAI and muffler, and I'd say that this thing gave me more gains than either of those, especially in midrange rmps. Negatives: the thing was a bitch to install with no dirrections other than what was on the venom site, and drilling through the firewall is never exactly fun. My CEL is still on, and I'm probably getting worse milage, but thats ok because I was getting about 30mpg before.
Overall, I'd say that the chip is NOT worth the $400 msrp, but is definately worth the $150 i spent. If you don't know how to read a wiring diagram, you probably wont be able to install it yourself. I really want to go to the tracts or something and try a run with it on, then one with it off. So yes it works, but not for the 25% hp that they claim. |

that doesnt make sense..
once the cel light comes on, your engine should be in limp mode, and it should feel weaker instead.... hmmm.. try turing the unit off and see if the cel light goes away. |

No, i didn't get a CEL....Check your o2 sensors..??? It is sort of like an apexi afc, except the AFC must be tuned (afc= air/fuel CONTROLLER) , the venom is "pre-tuned"

I unplugged my o2 sensor on my cat. This seems to have a similar effect. Tricks the engine into thinking it's running to lean, so it puts more fuel in. It could do the opisit on other cars though. I guess I just got lucky.

QUOTE(rocky2006 @ Apr 17, 2005 - 10:38 PM) sorry, i was asking bigmeanbulldog55 if what he did would work fine on a ST. i really need some cheap/free hp for my car. lol, it might. It's kind of a ghetto mod though. I'm all about making things go fast for nothing. Like I said in the earlier post, it might not work for all cars. It might not even work on other GT's. You just have to try it and see what it does. Get a stop watch and a nice strip of road. Measure your 0-60 or 0-100 or what ever, and do this a few times to make sure you get a acuract number. Then unplug the sensor and do the same. I've done a tone of these tests trying to figure out little gains every here and there. It's hard to do, and you need a buddy to help. You can also just go by feel, but don't tell people something works untill you prove it at least to yourself. EDIT: Don't forget that you will get worse gas milage.
