Hey guys, long time lurker here. I bought my '95 Celica GT hatchback about two years ago from a dealership that was in excellent condition except for the arm rest. It had 3 large horizontal rips on it (presumably from the previous owners' elbow). I haven't bothered with it for all this time but want to get it fixed now (just for aesthetics).
Sorry for the glare on that, I used my phone to take the picture. Anyways, someone told me about going to a Toyota junkyard and looking for a replacement armrest or something like that. What do you guys suggest I do to fix this? |

That armrest addition was actually an optional accessory. They don't make them anymore, and last time I checked, there were none in stock. I'd say either find one in a junkyard, or re-upholster it yourself. That's what I'm gonna do...

You guys actually might like it more without the big padded armrest. I've driven a few sixth gens, and the padded armrest on one of them got in my way when shifting. Then again, I'm fairly short, so I sit pretty low in the seat. I bet taller people don't get bugged by the bigger, padded arm rest.

Hmm when i got my car the padded armrest is ripped so i got another on ebay (mum paid for it) but tonight i tried the stock one and its err different. Its more comfortable cause it lets my arm go down all the way but its hard as a rock and until i get a short shifter i have to hold the knob at an angle but i still like it. Pity I have a near perfect padded one now.
Btw when I pulled the padded (plural cause i looked at the ripped one too) the one underneeath has indentions from where this rivets hold the padded one together and I want to know what you guys did to get rid of them? |

mine's padded. still not ripped yet. hopefully it doesn't anytime soon.. but i personally like the padded one.... feels more comfortable.. and it doesn't really affect my shifting. probably cause mine's not a short shifter.
