hey all, just got in from trying out "seafoam", gotta say this stuff is WILD. i been reading about it on mr2oc, and been wanting to try it, its supossed to work really well at removing carbon deposits and stuff from your engine, and its supossed to be a upper cylinder lubricant, ect. so, off to napa i went.
droped the $6.50 for bottle(i bought 2 one for the crankcase, one for the gas tank, yes you can use it in your gas take too!) and drove home. according to the mr2 guys, they are using 1/3 of a bottle in the crankcase, right into the oil filler hole, and letting the other 2/3 of the bottle get sucked into the throttle body from one of the vac lines on top, both with the engine running. so, i procedded to do it, 1/3 in the crankcase...then i checked the vac lines running into the t/b, pulled a hose off one running in and attached a long hose onto it, and slowly put the other end into the bottle, the engine bogs when you do it, so i reved it up a bit (to about 1500-2000rpm or so) till it sucked in the rest, and let it die. noticed a bit of smoke as the bottle was just about empty..and let the car bog itsef down till it shut off. then waited 15min....(finished up the install of my SAFC in the meantime ) and started it back up...took a couple seconds to get her running, then OMG it started SMOKING LIKE CRAZY!!!!! now, the mr2 guys said it would do just that, and so did the guy at napa so i was kinda expecting it, but WHOW!! i mean a TON of smoke.. i mean, it was smoking so bad, my neighbor jim came RUNNING outta his house yelling " MANNY, MANNY, WHATS WRONG WITH YOUR CAR!!!!!" hahaha...after about 5 min the smoking settled a little, so i drove around the block for 10-15 minutes, till it stoped smoking. noticed right away that my idle had dropped about 100rpm from 850 or so to 750 or so (according to the SAFC) and a VERY noticable increase in throttle response. they also say it helps your gas milage, tho i cant comment on that as i only just did it, but first impression is that this stuff is AWESOME! quieted up the valvetrain up a bit, definite increase in throttle response, and better milage..WOOT TWO THUMBS UP FOR SEAFOAM!!! ohh BTW heres a link to the thread on mr2oc if you guys wanna read up on it abit...gotta be a member to read it, but your all members of that awesome site anyway, right????? www.mr2oc.com seafoam thread This post has been edited by presure2: Mar 17, 2005 - 12:44 PM -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Ok, so wait, what is this stuff really for? just cleans out your engine or somthing?
Im bout to run to autozone today or tomorrow and do a oil change an get some fogs, you think this is somthing i should give up a 6er for? |

Haha, I got that reaction out of my mom when I used it on my Celica GT-S.
"CHRISTIAN! WHY'S YOUR CAR SMOKING?!" Good stuff though...I used 1/3 in my oil, 1/3 in my throttle body, and 1/3 in my gas. I sucked the stuff through the throttle body, shut off the car, poored it in the oil and gas, and then started the car up, and took the car to redline a few times around my house(The car had been driven and idling for a long time, so all the fluids were warm.) After that, I changed my oil, and the car ran a lot better...the idle was more steady, and throttle response improved. I've read on Honda-Tech that the Sea Foam thins your oil, so you should change your oil right after you do the Sea Foam treatment. I'm not sure if it's required, but I didn't want to take chances, so I did. Oh, and I've also heard that on engines with lots of carbon deposits, it can cause leaks that the carbon deposits previously sealed. I read that this happened usually only on engines with high miles, but it didn't happen to me on my 3S-GE with 154,000 miles though. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

hmmmm....verry intersting....i might want to drop 6 in here...and u say i can deposit it straight into the intake? and gas tank eh? sounds good...but im nervous about the smoking thing...

[right][snapback]258532[/snapback][/right] Thats what Im afraid of, I have 142k on my 7afe.. and I burn maybe a 1/2 quart every 3,000 miles.. so I dont want to do this an make it burn more. right? humm.. what to do? Think its still worth doign on a highermilage engine? |

You have 2 different problems. Your burning oil, this can thin oil, and thinner oil can find ways to get through cracks thicker oils cant. So if you dont have any leaks then theres nothing to worry about.

yeah i havent even got to 100,000 miles yet and im a 94 so, i pour it straight into my oil, intake, and gas tank? if im right, if im wrong correct me please.

You take off a vacuum line so that the intake manifold is sucking in air through the line, and then you place the line in the Sea Foam liquid so that it slowly sucks up the Sea Foam into the manifold. You don't want to suck up too much at a time, because the engine will bog down and die. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

A bunch of mechanic friends of mine have told me to use this SeaFoam stuff in my car to make it run better and clean it out. What's the best way to use this on my car? I got a 1994 7AFE AT with 195,000 miles on it. I'm in need of an oil change soon so I figure now would be the best time to do this since I'd have to change it anyway. I have an intake. I don't know what you guys mean by vacuum lines on the intake but I dont think I got that. Lol. What's the best way to use this stuff in my car?

I've heard to leave it running in the crankcase for 200-300 miles, then change the oil. Might get a better clean in there, but I'm sure its nothing drastic.

I used it as well. Even if you have no desire to clean your engine, it makes a lot smoke which scares people on the road

Wow, I'm going to try it, but which vacum hose you talking about. There are so many of them? My car dies almoust every time I try to start it. I hope it going to help.

I used the vacuum hose that came off from the IAC.. Since it had vacuum, it just sucked it up, while bogging the engine a little.. And on some of the new cars, it throws a check engine light, and once the idle comes back to "normal", then you can just clear it.. I don't think it happens often though.. But you never know.
