Pray?

Seriously tho, you should get it checked out, my celica used to do that and I was told by a close friends (who's a mechanic) that when he listened to it w/ a stethoscope or w/e thats what he thought it sounded like. Thats why I'm swapping.

IF it is a rod, then your best bet is a rebuild or a new motor.

You want power but have no money. That's a problem.

Cheap. Reliable. Fast. Pick two.

In no way should you take my word as gospel, so just keep that in mind. and that exact same situation got me into my current ordeal w/ the 4agze. So dont be so quick to leap towards the fun / costly 3sgte solution, as its still a real pita to get done.

rod knock dosnt click. its more like a rattle sound that you should be able to hear when u pop the hood open and rev the motor. the rattle will get louder as you rev.

i think we all become car hypocondriacs after reading all this stuff on the net. youll read something about rod knock and the next minute you swear you have it! i could hear some ticking in my motor, and i thought, oh no, its the valves. then i used a stethiscope and found out that it was my injectors ticking (normal).

take your car to 2 or 3 mecanics and see what they all say it is.

Lago's,

Thanks i'll do that. My car sounds perfect when i rev the thing up its just that initial rev from idle, which i don't do anymore. But i never hear this click anymore as long as i don't hit the gas from idle.

If it goes it goes biggrin.gif

while we're talking about engine problems/smoke...my car burns oil. Like half a quart per full tank... i think it is the valve guides..anyone else have any ideas? would seafoam or any other fluid anyones used help me? (assuming it is valve guides)...it could also be piston rings, but i don't have much blowby, so i doubt it

check for leaks under the car...or oil anywhere on the motor.

there aren't any leaks...no drops on the floor, and the engine is clean...I know its burning oil, because it smokes...

I know this has been old for a bit, but I'd just like to add that I used this stuff and it works. Just another satisfide customer. I'm thinking about running it through again next time I change the oil, just to make sure I've got all the gunk out.

It doesn't last that long. If you sit in your driveway for 10min, it'll go away enough that it won't bother anyone. And why would you get a ticket? What cop would do that?
