I just got off the phone with my buddy at Mad Mods here in Florida. I want to make my 95 celica GT a targa top. He said to make a custom kit would cost about $3000 to $4000 because the car has to be reinforced and stuff. Does this sound right and is there a kit anywhere (such as a universal kit) that could possibly fit? Thanks in advance for any feed back.

Ya im thinkin about it, right now I got about $2000 saved up, but i wanted to use the money more for a turbo kit. (I gotta be able to beat my friends Golf GTI 1.8T) So I dunno, I really want that and the vertical doors, but im wondering if I did get both would they cause problems such as water leaking when it rains, ya know. Anywho I'll post some pics of my car soon so you guys can see what Im drivin.

It probably isn't worth it to spend $3-4k just to have a targa top unless you have a show car or really don't have anything else to spend your money on.

you would be better off selling the car and getting a a convertible. Is it possible, yea, but its a major hack job. No kits, and I would recommend going to a junkyard with a renzall and cutting off a top to use for parts.

I would do it if I lived in Florida. But $3-$4K is expensive...

is there a way to do it? Yes there is.
Messing with my own car i have learned a few things. I also have what I call a working van and me and my step father do everything impossible to it.

To do the targa yourself you need:
-make a roll cage if you are concearned with safety. I'd go with classic H style mounted along the body of the car.
-cut out the roof, add targa top accesories (ie from home depot)
.. etc

total cost will be no more than a 1000, hard to do, but totally worth it.
