I have a stock 3rd gen 3sgte from a 96 jdm gt4 in my car and I'm thinking New cams, valves, head gasket, head studs, valve springs, and a port and polish. My car is a daily driver, so i don't want the reliability to got to s***. I also don't know if the power gain would be worth the money.

Its just like any other car in the world, add power loose some longevity of the engine. I think over all it would be a great that, besides the alltrac's and MR2's, there isnt that many Celi owners modding the 3sgte, I am considering a Stage 3 port job on my head wich would be interesting.

andy, i never noticed your car before. your swap sounds really nice, got any pics of your engine bay?
in your profile you said you were running 10psi. thats a 3rd gen motor out got there with a better turbo, injectors, and ecu. if you want more power, turn up the boost before you do anything else. you should have no problems running at least 15psi on that motor. the 10psi you are at now, is less then the stock boost that motor runs at from the factory. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

How much does it run out of the factory, because before I got my boost controller my boost would only get up to 7 or 8 psi according to my boost gauge |

stock boost on an st205 is between 11.9-16.7psi. so there is no reason you shouldnt be able to run more boost.
who did your swap? did u use a gt4 or mr2 clip ? -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

i dont think it would cause the boost to drop, but would give you more turbo lag.
if you hear a lot of hiss when u boost, then your probably have a leak. you piping looks good from the pics, but check the blow off valve with your hand as you rev the car to make sure it opens and closes correctly and dosnt leak. if all that checks out, just turn up your boost. youll be amazed how much faster the car gets at 13psi or more -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

What does your boost gauge read when the car is at idle. It should be in vacuum and reading below 0, which means it's in vacuum.

Just looked at your pics. I don't know why you were running so little boost w/o the mbc. Start twisting the knob about 1/4 turn, then run your car and see what your boost gauge reads. You are gonna feel a HUGE difference in power. Bring it up to 14 psi and you are gonna crap!!!

it does read below zero when its idling I guess I'm just scared of ****ing something up, and now I've been searching and st205.net said the gauge should have read around 13psi w/o the boost controller but mine only read 7. So if the gauge isn't working right maybe i'm running more than I think

andy, tell us what the readings are a idle. that will halp you figure out if your have a leak somewhere. what brand of boost gauge do you have?
you really dont have much to worry about. remember this is an oem toyota turbo motor. right now you are running less boost the what toyota built the motor to handle. youll be amazed at how much faster the car is by just turning up the boost. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

ok when I'm at idle it reads like 18 hg below zero or something like that it is and spw boost gauge.
I'm pretty sure I don't have a leak unless a very small one, I just don't understand why my car would being running such lower boost than stock with out a controler. Do you remember what your boost was at stock, or did you turn it up right away QUOTE(lagos @ Mar 30, 2005 - 6:40 PM) andy, tell us what the readings are a idle. that will halp you figure out if your have a leak somewhere. what brand of boost gauge do you have? you really dont have much to worry about. remember this is an oem toyota turbo motor. right now you are running less boost the what toyota built the motor to handle. youll be amazed at how much faster the car is by just turning up the boost. the vac in my car is at about 20 when everything is warmed up.
before i put in my mbc, i would get 10psi of boost and now i run about 14. there could be a lot of reasons why u didnt get more boost out of the box. you mechanic may have done something to the wastegate, you may have a restriction in your intake or exhasut, or a boost leak. hmm, what type fuel do you put in the car and are you getting any checkengine lights? sometimes when the ecu detects bad gas, or some type of engine problem it can put you into low boost mode for safety. read over all the BGBs over at celicatech.com and learn as much as you can about your motor. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

rather than do head work why not fit a bigger turbo, the stock internals are good for close to 400bhp, thats been proven. if anything just a mhg.

I think you got it. My car throws a check engine light for me being low on water in my intercooler, because I got rid of the top mount. I'm sure that is it. Well any idea on how to trick the ecu into thinking my intercooler is full. When I got my swap done they tried, but couldn't and I don't think they thought it was going to affect anything. So you think I should go up to 14 or 15psi, or should I go even higher?
