CARB certified performance for 5SFE?, Turbo or Supercharger? |

Does anyone know of any turbos or s/c that are actually carb certified? I know Burien and Rippmods aren't, and since I'm new to the boosting concept I'm not sure if I'm missing something obvious. I figure if I'm going to spend the money I may as well get something that won't get me hassled for the smog checks in CA. I did a search and someone mentioned Jackson superchargers. Anyone know of anything else? Thanks!

jacksons superchargers are carb legal. But they dont make superchargers for our celica's.

The smog gods just don't want to let us make our cars fast...legally. Anyone think it would fly if I just disconnected the turbo from the intake manifold and hooked up the stock intake in it's place for the test? I know people say to put it back to stock for the test, but with kits like the Burien, that would take pulling the header/turbo, and disconnecting/plugging all the oil/coolant lines. Would it hurt the turbo to have it just pushing air to the engine bay? Anyone tried this in Cali?

If I just disconnected the air hose that went from the turbo to my throttle body and reconnected the stock aircleaner, what would keep it from running? The turbo would just be spitting air into the engine bay, and there would be no boost, but I don't see why it wouldn't work? |

why not just open up the waste gate and not generate any boost.
You would fail the visual and the fuel controller that would mess up your exhaust readings. |

So even if it's not hooked up, I guess they don't want to see it in the visual... There's no easy way here...

[right][snapback]264715[/snapback][/right] california is a tricky place. best way to do it in san diego for guys with tubos is to just remove the turbo and put it back to stock. leave the intercooler and lines where they are. when it comes time for a test just tell them your car is a show car and the intercooler and gauges are just there for show also an important note make sure to hide any SAFC or engine management systems that are in plain view. put them in the glove box or something. that will cause you to fail the visual inspection. its worked so far for a few guys |
