Sometimes when I brake, when I initially hit the brake, I hear this cracking noise. It is like a pop though...not continuous. Does anyone know what this could be or how I could fix it? confused.gif

Is the noise coming from the front or rear of the car. If you have drums in the rear, they have been known to make noise. If you can't figure it out, just take it to a GOOD shop that deals with brakes alot. wink.gif

There is actually a tech bulletin out from Toyota on this, it is caused by the brake pads moving in the spindle bracket, seems the pads are a rather loose fit, when you back up, hit the brakes, then go forward, they click at least once when you next hit the brakes. Toyota's "fix" is to use brake grease on the ends of the pads to lessen the noise. I'm considering cutting out some brass shim stock to put between the pad and spindle. need to experiment with this...
