I was looking at the wheelwell gap between the fender and my wheels today and i noticed something odd... aat the front the gap is large, thus the car looks like it's riding at a normal ride height, but at the back the gap is smaller.. it looks almost like i have lowering springs on the back of my car (which i don't) is there any reason why the car would look like its "squatting" like this?

is this the case for anyone elses car?

i was thinking of correcting it by getting springs that would give me a 1 inch drop in the front and leave it at that..

edit: i just measured the wheelwell gaps: 3.4inch in the front and 2.3 in the rear
whats goin' on frown.gif confused.gif

i think that's hot is normally sits...measure the bottom of the sideskirts to the ground instead at the very front and very back, i think there's a .5" difference on the back.

that sucks, why would our cars sit like that? dosen't that hinder acceleration (having the front so high up like that), well, do you guys think it would be okay to replace the front 2 springs with lowering springs and leave the back stock? (to make the gaps even)

My celica still has the stock suspension, and I haven't noticed a difference in the gap between the front and rear.

you really have to look carefully
I've noticed the problem on a lot of cars (older ones), likemy friends 98 grand prix gtp

I think it's because the rear springs sag, but whatever the case it looks awful, looks like I have a friggin' fridge in my trunk or something mad.gif

It's not a problem, thats just how the cars were designed. Alot of vehicles are like this, especially front wheel drive cars.

Wouldn't the wheel gap in the back be more than in the front? I would think that the gap would be larger because of the added weight from carrying stuff in the trunk. From a rough glance it looks like the rear gap is larger than the front. Maybe your springs are sagging from carrying alot of stuff for awhile?

There is probably more room in the back in between the wheel and the inside. In the front you have the engine bay to worry about. Even with new springs, it will still be a little higher in the front than it is the back (assuming the springs are all the same drop.) Its just how the car was designed. Even on the new celis, there is a larger gap in the front.

My car does the same thing. I think that it is more common in the hatchback than the coupe models because of the extra weight. I also think that the rear springs and shocks just cant hold up like the front ones because they were made to carry the weight of the engine. You could just replace the front springs but most companies sell their lowering kits as four springs. If you had the money the best option would be to repace all of the springs and shocks and with lowering springs and KYB GR2 shocks. It would fix the problem.

The 6gc is like that. The rear fender gap is less than the fronts. Thats why tein lowering springs have it 1.4 in front and .9 in the back
