lots of forum reading and cross checking with other sources (b/c you have to take everything you read on the internet with a grain of salt), i took a autobody/repair course in highschool.... working on my own car, reading books (including BGBs) and now mechanical engineering coursework. my dad was one of those people who like nice cars but is not real inclined to do any work on them, so i really didnt learn much from him... most of what i learned was just messing with my own car and reading.

I learned from my parents making me work on there cars young. Also from searching on the net, and MY Fav.. Trial and error, Thats how i do everything, i Like to learn from my own mistakes and figure it out the hard way.
