Im more for performance so the CBR is my choice out of the two. Overall I like the Ducati 999 but it's basically a track bike.

If you are going to get a bike get the GSX-R 750...
My choice is the Gixxer 1000.. that is the king of bikes. and is the reigning champion bike of the AMA with Mat Mladin with his record 5 times AMA champion riding the gixxer 1000. go to www.gixxer.com for info. |

You may want to check insurance prices B4 purchasing, all the above mentioned models (except maybe the Ninja 250) are going to be pretty high...the "naked street" or the cruisers are much lower rates. Anything with the bodywork like the ZX12R is extremely high insurancewise (if you can even get it). something like a Kawasaki vulcan 500 ltd or vulcan 800A are good entry level cruisers, the 2005 Harley sportster entry level bike is around 6400 now, a pretty decent bike finally, they made a LOT of changes.
I've been riding for 30+ years, I currently have a 1500 Vulcan Nomad and a Harley FXRS Lowrider. I strongly suggest taking a motorcycle safety course, it might lower your insurance, not to mention maybe keeping you alive. |

The KLR-650 Kaw or equivalent is another different option, with a lowering kit and good tires it will embarass a lot of street bikes in corners + you can go offroad or tour cross-country. If there were 1 best bike, there wouldn't be so many choices, buy what you like and not what someone else likes,,,you'll be happier.
Only bike board I visit is the Vulcan one at vroc.org, there are a bunch of them out there, search google for motorcycle web or motorcycle forum etc |
