I could understand removing a limiter if there would be a significant increase in top end, but on the ST it really isn't worth messing with, the full size Chevy and GMC trucks have an electronic limiter that can be removed with a programmer. The factory limit is 100mph but after the mods I could get mine to 140mph before it would start to top out, I never pegged it though.

On older vehicles there is a speed sensor located somewhere along the drivetrain, but i'm not sure on the ST, the older non-Vortec Chevys had them in the rear left axle. Actually the shield behind the drum was the sensor.

nah its not a big deal its 1 wire that you just hook up to a switch to cut it temporarily b4 it hits the ecu its really no biggy
and it really doesn't take that long to get up to 115+ mph and proper mods? umm a decent alignment and balanced tires you should be fine lol just don't wack into any pot holes or cars lol and hmm maybe me in my ST doin 130mph with my suspension dropped on its balls and 18" rims will fly past bulldog and drop him into a tree? one less hillbilly to deal with get a grip high speed doesn't mean a thing anymore unless its in excess of 150mph my ST is prefectly able to hit 140.....given the time cause oh wait we're not lookin at a performance motor? well that is until i get my 7afte project finished then hehe goin past 130 will be easy |

if you are doing regular street racing 100 is all you really need. past that is just crazy because you dont have much time to react. and the most i really race is light to light which isnt possible to get to 100.

You live in northern Virgina, and I live in West Virgina. It's really not that far away. Come on up here. Or I can come down. You want to talk like that, then you'd better back it up. It'd probably be quicker for you to get here sence you can run that 130. -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy

There is a link at the beginning of this on how to do it from evil speed. To the person that said that on an ST you cannot rev up to 6500 or 6800 I sure can and Ive hit 7500 when I missed 5th and went back to third.

the only speed limiter on my st is that stupid little nob thing that resets my mile guage so whenever my speedometer gets past the 155 it hits that thing and cant go any farther... and plus there arent anymore numbers... can i mod that somehow?

your saying you hit 155 mph before? lol well i have a 94 st manual and once i hit about 115 it was taking for ever to go any faster but then again i have bigger rims and i loked it up and its about 1-2% off so i was actuallu goin a lil faster then 115 |

I would pay to see a stock ST hit 150. I would pay to see a stock GT hit 150, lol, I guess i'll be keeping my money on that one.

yea that si complete B/S, you would be redlining easily by 120..even in a GT. The fastest I've ever gone is 110 on this little stretch of highway going downhill...I was around 5k RPMs...I know you can't hit 150 without seriously F*cking up your engine...if not destroy it

The GT is limited to about 125 by the transmission. The only stock transmission on the USDM Celica with the right ratio capable of reaching those numbers would be the ST Auto and it is lacking the fifth gear to reach them, so mechanically you have to either have custom gears or found a 5 speed transmission that would bolt up to the 7A with at least a 3.10 ratio.

Why the heck they put a speed limiter if our cars are THIS freakin' slow.
I mean, if I get on the freeway, gas that crap like crazy... I don't think my car would ever reach the speed limit of 111 or whatever till after like 20 exits. -------------------- |

i was jokin, but i got past 140 once, i wasnt redlining, i was goin slightly downhill on the highway in a 94 auto st with a 7afte engine, and i believe the speed limiter has been removed, the mechanic who looked at the car before i purchased it said the engine was swapped perfectly but didnt know why he couldnt get the check engine light to turn off... but hey next time i get up that fast ill try to take a pic for ya guys, if i dont come back i crashed trying lol :-P
