What performance mods will it take me in my 96 5spd celica st to beat my brother's 2004 40th aniversary 4spd automatic v6 mustang. He has 190 HP SAE @ 5,250 rpm; 220 ft lb , 298 Nm @ 2,750 rpm, and has a curv weight of 3,114 lbs. I know it'll take a good ammount from the tuning aspect, but is there ne way around the turbo? Or to be faster than him I'll need to get a T-3 or ct-26? Thanks guys

I drove my friend's '02 Auto V6 Mustang and it felt so slow! The 190hp shouldn't be taken too seriously paired with the auto tranny... that's my feeling at least.

You may be suprised in that it may not take much to edge him out. STs arent much slower than V6 mustangs stock for stock. Especially 5 speed ST vs auto mustang. Remember you have weight on your side, just strip off some of that sound deadening they put on 96+s and then do some simple mods and you may be able to comfortably get a lead on him every time.

why exactly would it be in general? I'm not saying you're wrong, but this is a engine and performance question. I am pretty sure i'm in the right place.

Well if you put it that way... not without a lot of money. If you're looking for "insert modification" will add "insert amount of horsepower"... you're not gonna get those answers... because that's not the way things work. The quick fix... nitrious. -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

Inexpensive... hmm... remove your a/c, gut out the interior, remove spare tire, and anything else... =)
j/k... if your looking to speed it up, in the long run it isnt going to be cheap. |

The way I see it the question is: "what can I do to my Celica to be able to beat car x in a race" And that's more of a general question than a real technical question about part x and y of the engine. But whatever, I was just asking -------------------- |

I have a celica 5 speed and my other car is a v6 200hp automatic, and trust me it will take alot more than header and intake for a celica to take a mustang, my r/t its way faster than my celica, by the way I can beat auto v6 mustangs and camaros with no problem at all in my other car

you have a ST... give up.. or drag race him on the twistys
even with a turbo you are likely to make 170 hp. |

from a stop you will lose. but from a roll it should be pretty close. cai, exhaust, pulley should ensure a victory from a roll

For fun, about 7 or 8 months back before I did any major mods to my car, and with 3 other guys in my car I took on a mustang at a red before a quarter mile stretch from a stop. ST Auto tranny vs V6 Auto tranny mustang. Off the line and through first gear he had the advantage, in 2nd I started making up the difference, and in third he pulled away. Probably difference of a second, give or take a couple tenths. With 3 other guys in the car I probably had upwards of 550 lbs in the car. So, i'd say gut it out some, lose excess weight. New headers + CAI won't be a huge improvement, but it might make enough of a difference.

I spank v6 mustangs. They are soo slow. Loud POS if you ask me. A v8 GT is a decent duel for me. Mustang is very heavy.
