I planned on putting a turbo in my car, however knowing that I would never get more then 200hp from it (withough major motor overhall) I kinda figured that doing the swap to a 3s would be the better thing to do, but also the ability to get even more hp over time (If i decide I want more)
If I get the swap I would go out and buy a 5th gen all-trak, a good running one for the best price I can find (have the motor checked out by my mechanic) (not caring about the body damage the car may have or anthing really spet the motor and components needed) then one I have both the cars, take them to the shop, have them pull the 5 gens and put it in my baby. and leave my 5s out for re-sale. then basicly sell of whats left of the donar car for cheap, its not gana happen for a wile but I wanted to get an idea from you guys about it. I now that whenever a swap is done its bound to have problems because the motor is not ment for my car, and that if I put a turbo on a motor that is not ment for one its gana also have problems. so keeping that in mind, and the big price differance, as well as the big gain differance, and know that i care more about the outcome of the car then the money going into it. what do you guys think i should do. -------------------- ![]() |

just wondering..if you do the swap, that 3s is coming out mighty expensive..i found one on http://www.osakajdmmotors.com/introtoyota.htm
and its only for $1400..of course, not considering shipping and labor for dropping it in your car..but if u can do it urself, u save lots of $. I just thought i'd let u know bout this cheap 3sgte, which would come out better than buying a whole 5th gen... -------------------- ![]() |

if you have ever read or paid atention to half the posts, its going to cost the same in the long run. Your not going to get a trubo project to get any more power per buck. If you turbo it for 2k your not going top get much power, and its not going top last. If you swap it will cost mopre, but you will also have a lower milage engine built for a turbo.

I almost thought your poll meant that there was a 5th generation 3S. Hmmm, I'd say, turbocharge the car with a possible engine rebuild?

As far as I know... USDM 3SGTE's were a little less powerful than JDM ones, weren't they? And the cost of buying a clip with a JDM engine and swapping seems like it would be about the same, so why not just go that way and get an engine that probably has less miles and is more powerful?

a swap is gana be done in a shop or not at all, I dont have the time to do it my self, and I dont really trust my self to do it right. I can install a turbo myself though.
USDM 3sgte's are less powerfull because there emistions legal, I have to be able to pass emistions with it or I cant drive it, and the reson I want to get the whole 5th gen is so that I know its a perfectly running motor, and so if there are any parts needed besides the motor I would have them in that car. not to mention if I spend tons of money on a motor then ship it from japan or wherever and find out its sezed or missing critical parts i would be screwed, and have to ship it back only to get back the motor cost if I'm lucky. I have a fully re-build 5s, it had a newly machined head as well (about 90k on it right now was rebuilt at 82k), however it does not mean that I can get more hp out of it, its just means it runs good, I want a motor ment to handle a turbo so that it will handel higher psi, and have stronger internals if I chose to upgrade it. creis, iam still fairly new on the forum about 6 months... but my adivce would be what ever you want you know... I mean you know nic and playr are doing some wild S*** to the stock engine. Its about what you want ... you want Power and spend the money or you want some little extra power for less.

Oh, I know you won't get more hp out of it, I was just thinking about the reliability issue and whatnot. Well that's pretty sweet that your motor is already rebuilt; if I were personally in your shoes, I'd go with just turbocharging it. -------------------- ![]() A Jaws4God Creation... |
