i just recently got a new power window motor for the back passenger side, now the driver back side motor goes bad. I just want to do the replacement of motors myself if possible. I been lookin on the net and the fourms, and i couldn't find any guides to replace a power window motor. dont know what the price would be either, since i went though my warranty and it cost 100 bucks for each visit or something. help would be suggested, its a 96 gt convt

i got the toyota repair manual for the convertible i'll try to scan them later.

is the problem with the motor or the switch? bcuz if the window only goes one way or works half the time then its most likely the switch. the switch will run you ~$70 each from toyota.

After I did the bodywork to my car and put it back together, my passenger side window would not go down. I almost bought a new motor, but I decided to give it a look myself. It is very hard to get to, but I got to it took it apart, hit it on something, and it worked. It could be that the teeth on the motor's gear have skipped or something. It's worth checking out dude, cuz window motors for celica's are not cheap.

the switch goes down without a problem... somethimes, but almost always has problems goin up. I think I need to clean the contacts on the inside or something. or need to check the motor. jubz, the repair manual scan would help.

1. Removing the door panel.
This is a fairly easy process, but make sure you get all of the screws removed or you will have a hard time ripping this bad boy out. There are 4 screws on the bottom, 3 plastic push-in's on one side, 1 large screw under the armrest, 1 screw where the door-open latch is, and you must remove the plastic surrounding the latch to remove the final large screw. In order to pull the panel off, it is recommended that you move the triangular peice of plastic located where the wiring comes in from the automatic side mirror on the inside. It can be moved by simply sliding it, or it can be pulled out. To pull the door panel off, use an upward pull because the panel actually hooks into the area the window is located. There will be connections you must unplug. There is one for the door light, and two in the area of the lock/unlock buttons. They can be unplugged by simply pressing down on a clip and gently pulling out. The panel cannot be completely removed without doing this.

This is from Makaveddie's tutorial on how to 6.5" speakers in the front. I thought it would help you out a bit.

from my understading its the switch! if it only goes one way and takes a while till you get it to go the other way. i just cleaned my switch today and it solved the problem. try cleaning the switch b4 you do anything else!! use a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol. and an old tooth brush would be good.

if that doesnt work then here are the pages from the repair manual. they're big so i just attached the links! hope this is helpful!!!

When we have a problem like that at the body shop I work at, a lot of times the problem is called by a dead spot in the motor. Just pop it with you hand a few times and see what happens.
