The shocks do come with some sort of instruction but as we know the install may involve welding and what not. I dont want to give it to my mechanic and sketch him out telling him this without directions. Is there a specific writeup on how to do this on the celica?

when i installed my konis, all i had to do was cut the rear shocks to where the old shock will slide out.

just get the bilsteins, and dont deal with cutting or welding! 2 replacement rears and 2 front inserts.

your mech will figure it out. the fronts are easy, so I did them myself. the rears I took my mechanic, he said it was pretty straightforward

isn't that backwards ghost?
cause the rear are new struts entirely and the fronts are inserts? |

nope the fronts are replacements and the rears you need to cut the top off the stock shock housing and drill a hole in the bottom and the koni's slide in and bolt through the hole

maybe the koni site is wrong or maybe they are both inserts, I don't have them on my car so I don't know for sure, but when I was going to buy a set I read the instructions on the install and it said to cut the top off the rear housing and empty them out, then bolt the new koni inserts in.

maybe they just mean cut the bottoms of the strut and empty old shock insert and insert new. not the rear strut itself.

the rear on konis are inserts. you have to cut the top of the orignal shock and pull it out. then you have to drill a hole on the bottom, slide the new insert in, and with the hole you screw the assembly back together. i can try and get a copy of the instructions up soon. edit... found a pic. of the rear struts. ![]() This post has been edited by BLINKYxMUNKEY: Apr 26, 2005 - 8:57 PM -------------------- |

No welding, at least not on my '95 or on any install I've seen pictured. Both front and rear struts are inserts with the Koni setup, only the rear require some cutting and drilling.
BLINKYxMUNKEY's instructions and pics above are accurate. |
