QUOTE(spunky393 @ May 14, 2005 - 6:34 PM) QUOTE(runriot95 @ May 14, 2005 - 5:51 PM) So, you're using the receiver's pre-outs then? I assumed that you didn't want to use the factory amp, my mistake. I don't know how good the factory amp is, but I think I'd rather use the head unit's built-in amp or an aftermarket amp instead. Well, if you think about it, the stock reciever probably puts out 50x4 watts plus the amp to run the premium speakers. So, if my new reciever is putting out 54X4 watts, then i should still use that stock amp. Especially if there is a aftermarket harness to get everything you can out of the amp. I'm not following you. The harness you have allows you to use the factory amp as your amplifcation for the speakers, therefore you're not using the new receiver's amp to power anything. |

In your first quote, you said i will be amplifying the signal twice. Well, hows that any different from the stock reciever? The stock reciever was putting out 50x4 in the first place, and then the amp aplified it to whatever. So, it'll be the same setup, just a different head unit. -------------------- The most important lesson I learned from Karate-Dō Kyōshan – “You can not be what you do not believe you are” |

First of all, do you know that the stock receiver was sending an amplified signal to the stock amp? Maybe you do know, but I don't. Even if the stock receiver puts out a certain amount of power, that doesn't mean that the signal sent to the amp is speaker-level. I don't know how Toyota (or who makes their stereos) configured the outputs on their decks.
Second, by using the pre-outs on your new receiver, you are sending an unamplified signal to the factory amp and it will NOT be amplified twice. The point of using the pre-outs is to send as clean a signal as possible and then let the amp do its thing. Regardless of what set-up you use, I'm interested to know how it turns out, so keep me posted. |

Well, the harness used the 6.5 Volt pre out for the high and mid range. And let me tell you, it sounds HONESTLY 3-4 times better than the stock head unit. I'm very very pleased with it. I just need to tune the subs and i'll be on my way. Anything else you want to know runriot?

Yeah, a picture would be cool! I'm glad that you like it and that it sounds great. I'm not surprised that it sounds better than the stock stereo. Obviously, car manufacturers are more interested in other aspects of the car than the stereo. Just out of curiousity, did you upgrade anything else or just the head unit? |

Just the head unit, it's dark outside right now, i'll get a picture tomorrow.
The speaker that Toyota put in for the premium sound system are wonderful speakers, it's not worth replacing them unless they blow. -------------------- The most important lesson I learned from Karate-Dō Kyōshan – “You can not be what you do not believe you are” |
